For the past couple of weeks, I've been using Claude Code to build Kolony, the first Hive frontend that gives users a magazine-style format for their posts. Today, I'm introducing the posting features that make Kolony an actual frontend for posting purposes.
The obvious question is: why is a magazine format necessary? Allow me to answer.
Kolony serves several useful purposes.
- First, every Hive user can showcase their published content in magazine format. This is the most basic purpose for choosing a magazine layout. Your posts do not only appear in reverse chronological order as they do under the Posts tab, but they actually appear as links inside content blocks within a 3-column layout. Those content blocks can be labeled anyway you want. They can be labeled by categories, by specific tags, or with unique labels based on a specific theme, type of content, or whatever makes sense for your magazine.
- Another way Hive users can use Kolony is to curate Hive content in unique ways. Every user's blog showcases content that user curates from across the blockchain. Your unique Kolony magazine can feature some or all of that content alongside or in lieu of your own posts. It's your magazine; showcase the content you think your magazine deserves.
- A third way Kolony can be used (not now, but in the future, based on the current roadmap) is by featuring offchain content. If you want to create a Hive magazine that is focused entirely on technology, fiction writing, travel, or the news, you'll be able to curate content or post original content around those topics for your specialized Kolony magazine.
In short, Kolony transforms Hive from a mere blogging or social media platform into something more like a publishing enterprise. Any user can create a specialty magazine and feature the content they want their magazine to showcase. You can do this under any existing Hive account or create a new Hive account to establish your magazine.
