The WAFCON championship quarter finals began with the match between Algeria vs Côte d’Ivoire. Many had expected the West African team to push through but that was not to be as their North African opponent prevailed and advanced to the next round of the tournament.
With that victory, Algeria booked their place at the global tournament for the first time after coming from behind to beat 10-man Côte d’Ivoire (2-1) to advance to the semifinals.
