I see a Raccoon perching at the bark of a tree patiently waiting and timing its prey. I feel that the Raccoon is about to pounce on the prey albeit with some caution.
Mickey, a dedicated Raccoon could not join others to forage for food owing o a slight ill health. And when his mates came back they brought nothing for him. He sniffed hard to calm his troubling stomach but that action alone seem to ignite the hunger within him the more. The night is still young, he told himself.
Gently, he crept out of the woods and found solace at the back of an oak tree planted along a major road. There he observed the other side of the world where humans live. But words had gone round the woods earlier before now that the humans are now hunting them for fun. He needed to eat, he told himself, otherwise he won't make it home alife.
At the other side of their peaceful home in the woods stood a big refuse bin. He had foraged there many times with great success. Bread, cheese, and even crayfish - he had gotten all from there in the time past.
Today, he calculated his moves. But the road appeared to be more busy that usual. He needs to be patient enough otherwise he will become a dead one and gone forever.
As Mickey kept timing the road to clear up a bit for safe passage and the nearby wastebin, a truck pulled over. Mickey lowered his head and observed the more. A refuse collector jumped down from the truck and went straight to the refuse bin. He brought out a big polythene bag and collected all there was in there. Mickey grinned and whined in disbelief. The refuse collector had taken away every damn thing in the wastebin and poured its contents inside the waiting refuse truck.
Mickey felt sad but refused to give up. He can't go home now without a meal. In a matter of minutes the road had become less busy. A neighbour then came by and dumped a bag inside the empty refuse bin and left. Within him, something said to Mickey - act now or you'll go home hungry and possibly die.
Mickey quietly raised his head observed the road once more; then stealthily crawled out of the bark of the tree and dived straight into the refuse bin. He grabbed the refuse bag and aggressively tore it to shreds. Luckily for him there were crumbs of bread in there. He could not eat them there but just grabbed it and ran back into the woods as fast as he could.
Adios!!!
