Marcus came back from school feeling very famished. He called out his mum thrice as he made his way into their two room hut. Everywhere was silent. His mum was nowhere near the house. Meticulously Marcus dropped his bag on the wooden bed and slowly proceeded towards the kitchen. On getting there, he lifted the first lid, there was nothing in the pot. He proceeded to the second and third with no positive results. Marcus heaved a sigh and then retraced his steps backwards.

He got to the main entrance door, looked left and right then decided to visit George his bossom friend. George lives few poles away from their house. Marcus began to stroll under the heavy sun which had no mercy beating down on his already tired back. He was optimistic that at least he'll find something to eat when he gets to his friend's house.

Under few minutes of trekking Marcus found himself at the house of his friend George. As he enters the house he heard the sound of cutlery and his belief became stronger. As he walked into the room he met George savouring a little plate of rice. It was like a dinner for one. George smiled and waved at him to coke and join him. Marcus smiled and said 'thank you'. He knew the rice was barely enough for his friend let alone two hungry persons.

He didn't waste much time there because he already knew that his mission had been defeated. After a while he bade his friend farewell and began the agonising journey of returning to his house with the belief that his mum will return with some 'good things' to eat.
