Joys from my Owambe diary

Pleasant greetings everyone. Hope your week is going smoothly?

I can say the same for my own week, only that this week is filled with a lot of activities with the majority being school graduation parties. Since July usually marks the end of an academic session for schools here in Nigeria, it is also noteworthy that a party will be held to celebrate the outgoing students and also induct the junior students into senior classes.

My daughter happened to be one of those leaving junior school to senior school.* Oh, how time flies. I can easily recall when she was just a toddler who could barely walk ten metres without stumbling but now, she is a full blown teenager and a beautiful one at that. I think I need to sharpen my cutlass some more in readiness to cut off some legs (coughs*) hehe.

Yesterday, the school where I work held its end of session and graduation party and it was so much fun. The preparations began on Monday, with washing, peeling, cutting, boiling and frying of the meat and tomato sauce which will be used for the party jollof rice the next day.

No Pani no gain is a famous slogan every Nigerian knows by heart and it was with this in mind that myself and other teachers joyfully laboured to carry out the necessary tasks to make the party a successful one.

Tuesday finally came and all of us were prepared to party. From as early as 7am, the decorating of the venue had already commenced. There were a lot of presentations by different classes and cultural dances from the Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups but the most enjoyable part of the day was when parents were called out to dance with their children. I felt quite happy dancing with my daughter and my joy was evident.

Next was teacher's dance and we all came out to rock the stage with our dance shoes. My boss also stepped out to appreciate us as we danced by spraying some currencies on us. The school prepared some nice gifts for both the graduands and supporters. I couldn't capture more of the gifts as I was running here and there organizing the children for their presentations. In all, everything turned out alright and everyone was all smiles.

After this came prize giving to some outstanding students, certificates to all the graduands and finally, it was time for Menu! Menu!! Menu!!!

The usual partyj lollof rice and fried chicken were very well represented and not lacking. I eqaully received some gifts from my students, both in cash and in kind. It was truly an amazing day. I also tooksome photos with the graduands whom I am going to miss a lot.

I have two more graduation parties to attend this week. I'll be sure to full you guys in on how it went. This might not be a regular Owambe party but it was a party none the less. What say you about my party 😁 @samostically, @justfavour, @faithewellington, @nkemakonam89,@luchyl and @rukkie.

I hooe you all enjoy the photos of yesterday's event with me.
