I remember quite vividly creating my Coinbase in December of 2017 and purchasing my first bit of cryptocurrency. The process was pretty aggravating to be honest. I think my credit card initially got declined, then I had to ultimately attach a random bank account to finally get the buy completed.
Sadly, the process really hasn't become any easier in the past six years. Credit card companies are still declining purchases of crypto, exchanges have come and gone, and don't even get me started on all of the KYC that is required just to purchase the smallest fraction of crypto.
My first purchase on that day six years ago was Litecoin. Bitcoin was still hovering around $17,000 USD or something like that and the unit bias was hitting me quite hard. I didn't really appreciate the idea of stacking Satoshi's back then, so I went with Litecoin because it felt more accessible. That idea of being able to hold a "whole coin" was too great of a pull.
When I saw that [APMEX[(https://www.apmex.com/) had this Litecoin 1oz round for just a bit above spot price, I knew I had to pick one up.

Here is the other side of the piece. I think it is pretty cool. I took it out of the sleeve so I could get a better photo of it, then I quickly put it back and locked it away in my safe. I still hold some LTC to this day. I honestly can't remember though if it's the original batch I bought or if I sold and then bought some more again.
It's currently sitting in a hardware wallet safe and secure.
You might remember, my post last week for #threetunetuesday sponsored by @ablaze was themed "Magic" based on a Roxette song I hadn't heard in quite some time.
There are so many great songs having to do with magic that I thought I would continue that theme this week. Plus, it appears we are entering a magical time in the crypto markets. With BTC briefly topping $42,000 USD yesterday, there is a definite charge to the air.
It almost feels like we are sitting on a powder keg that is primed to blow. I've heard many people mention that this bull run could be unlike anything we have seen before. Especially with the introduction of ETFs. Only time will tell, but one thing I know, is the crypto market definitely loves their acronyms. While last bull run was built around NFTs and DeFi, it's not unbelievable to assume this one could be all about ETFs.
Finally, before I get to the music. I've often heard people refer to cryptocurrency as "Magic Internet Money". In a tongue and cheek manner. I've even done it myself. While most of us here know there is more to it than that, there is still something magical about it and knowing that we are early adopters to all of this even after six plus years.
Don't ask me why, but I have always been a fan of Electric Light Orchestra. I feel like they don't actually get as much credit as they deserve. I get that the easy listening vibe isn't really for everyone, but there is something about them that is pretty cool.
They were talented musicians and they almost had a progressive vibe to them before that was really a think. Plus they had some pretty amazing harmonies and innovative use of instruments. Based on the live clip above from 1976 (good year), it looks like it would have been pretty awesome to see them live back in their prime.
Plus their outfits were pure 70's gold am I right?
"Strange Magic" felt like the perfect song to include in this post. Although many of may not understand all the in's, out's, and technical details of cryptocurrency, we still embrace it and it's "strange magic".
I mentioned this song last week and it just wouldn't be right to share an ELO video without giving Olivia Newton John a proper shout out. While most people know her from that more famous movie "Grease", she was also in another movie called "Xanadu". One of her big hits is the title track from that movie.
What you may not know is that while the soundtrack for Xanadu highlighted Olivia, it was also hefty on the ELO. I've got the soundtrack on vinyl at home and it is always a fun spin.
"Magic" is one of my favorite Olivia Newton John songs, it just has a really smooth vibe to it and it highlights her voice quite well. It definitely fits into that "Yacht Rock" genre that I tend to enjoy so much.
Plus, ONJ was a total smoke show am I right?
The world really lost a treasure when she passed away in 2022.
I think she is most commonly associated with Australia, but she was actually born in Cambridge England. Along with ELO, just another thing we have to thank the British for.
I guess I have dual theme this week where I am not only talking about "Magic", but I am also highlighting artists from the UK to some degree or another. I've gotta be honest, as far as I know, I have never heard this song by Kate Bush before, but as soon as I saw the title, I knew I had to include it.
"December Will Be Magic Again" feels quite fitting for what we have seen so far this month in terms of the crypto charts. Watching BTC toy with the $42K mark yesterday was pretty intense. I have a chart open on one of my monitors that updates in real time via Livecoinwatch. The price isn't always in line with some of the bigger sites like Coin Gecko, but it is pretty close.
Speaking of smokeshows, Kate wasn't too bad to look at either. I think @whywhy mentioned that last week when he was talking about his Nena poster.
Until today, I had only ever heard "Running up that hill" which honestly feels like it could fit quite well in a post about cryptocurrency as well. I will definitely be digging into more of Kate's stuff after I publish this post.
Fingers crossed that this December continues to be magic for us!
