Sometimes monster trucks break down. The drivers try their best not to break them, but accidents happen. When they do, they come to me to put them back together. It's not glamorous and the pay is lousy, but it's worth the smile on their faces once everything's back in working order.

The latest damage came to the Zombie monster truck. It had really been put through its paces this time. The repairs are done, but only time will tell if the repair job will hold. It took quite a tumble, and if the repairs don't hold we may end up having to replace the entire rear axle. All in a day's work for a monster truck mechanic.
There are many tools in a monster truck mechanic's arsenal. This particular repair was fairly extensive, so it needed a more advanced tool than an impact driver or arc welder. This job called for... JB Weld.

The truck took such a heavy tumble that the passenger side's rear tire completely snapped off the axle. It may require a brand new axle, but we'll see if I can repair it first.

I quickly got to work. I only had 25 minutes tops to make the repair. I took a butter knife and cut off a chunk of the putty. I used some rubber gloves my wife uses for cleaning to protect my hands while I worked the putty and mixed it.
I propped up the chassis of the monster truck so it wouldn't put pressure on the weld as it cured. I worked the putty around the axle and down into the grooves of the wheel hub.

Once fully cured, this will act as a cast of sorts. We'll see if it holds. At the very least my son will be happy it's back in action! The downside to all of this is I now owe my wife a new pair of rubber gloves for cleaning.
