Life is busy, and we all have things we need to do. A lot of this is just how life is and not due to any irresponsibility on anyone's part. Until we hit retirement age, deadlines and appointments are par for the course and time is of the essence.
For those who are retired, it's understandable when they may be less aware that others who aren't retired have things they need to do. It's not part of their routine anymore. What baffles me is when the people who are still in the workforce decide to waste everyone's time.

A great example of this was my morning drive. I had just dropped my oldest son off for school and was heading to my youngest son's daycare to drop him off. Traffic in the fast lane was unusually slow, so I decided to get over. I pull up to the red light and a large truck is pulling a trailer full of landscaping tools. They were clearly heading to a jobsite, but were going ten miles under the speed limit. What's worse is the two cars behind it were content to keep barely chugging along behind it. By the time I was at the next light, their headlights were barely visible in my rear view mirror. Everyone back there was still chugging along, completely oblivious to the fact that not only were they a driving hazard, but other people sharing the road have places to be and things to do.
I'm amazed at how oblivious people can be to what other people are doing, and how this inconveniences and hinders others around them as a result. One of my biggest pet peeves in life is, "Don't waste my time, and don't waste others' time either." I'm not trying to be morbid, but none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. We get the time that we get and we can't add any more to it. It's up to make the most of this time, but these people who walk around oblivious to the rest of the world make me wonder if they've ever given this any thought. Do they really even know what they're doing in life? Is there any purpose to it, or are they just wandering aimlessly, "tossed around by the sea?"
I think as I get older I notice this more. Because of this, it's something I'm working to impress upon my kids. Be considerate of others, aware of what you're doing, and don't waste other people's time. Once time is gone, you can't get it back. If you live your life oblivious to what you're doing, you'll find yourself asking yourself someday, "Where has the time gone," and be wishing you had made the most of it.
