The delays in shipping due to Christmas made me almost forget about some scrap Sterling on its way to me. It arrived right before and after Christmas, but in all the excitement and celebrating I forgot to open the packages until now.
Since the price of bullion has surged, I've resorted to buying Sterling silver under melt price. Anything usable and possibly able to be sold at a markup I will sell off to reduce my overall cost in purchasing the lots. Anything that doesn't sell gets sent off with the rest of the pieces to be refined into silver bars. Once those are returned back to me, I sell the bars to cover the cost of the lots I bought and keep the remaining silver bars as my payment for putting in all of the effort.
Here's what I got in these last couple of shipments.

I'm nice and try to remove as many stones as possible to make things easier for the refiner, so I'll be removing the stones from this broach probably this weekend.
If I come across a unique piece in a lot, I'll sometimes pick one or two pieces to keep for myself. Here's a unique pendant I found.

This is a very cool piece that you can see was hand-carved by someone. This takes a lot of talent. Silver is soft, but it's still not easy to make something so unique and with such attention to detail. This piece will go in the "pirate stash" along with other pieces I didn't want to see destroyed.
If you haven't tried scrapping, it's a lot of fun. You do have to be disciplined with your purchases, since you're unlikely to make any sort of profit if you aren't buying it well below spot price. If you can stick to it and find a good refiner near you, it's a great way to get cheaper silver than buying it retail.
