A Seaport and Downtown Walk in Boston

in Wednesday Walk10 days ago (edited)

Hello friends and Hivians. Well I'm about to share my first day in Boston with you. A group of 8 of us decided to check out the streets of Boston. Now only 3 of us are not from this area which includes me. This activity was sort of an all day thing.

This walk started shortly after getting picked up at the airport. Well some large cities just dont have the best parking options. There really isn't any street parking in Boston you have to find a parking garage. We found one and we had to park clear up on the roof top. While I was up there I took these shots. Boston has a lot of old original building and some modern ones as well. The last time I was here not near as many of the modern ones.

Well this was going to be a lot of walking so one of our first course of actions was to get some food. Hey we need a little energy to charge us up. We checked out Quincy Market which is basically a walk in food court. Outside loud music was playing and a few street entertainers were performing trying to earn some dough. I was thinking maybe it would be less crowded than the streets but I was wrong, haha.

I have been craving a lobster roll for quite a long time. You cant really get a good one or authentic one in the Midwest. Now that I'm in the New England area of the U.S. that craving is now gone. I got a bit ahead of myself and took a bite or two before realizing I should take a picture to capture it. A heads up, two days later I even had a bigger better one I managed to capture a photo of before digging in, haha. Sorry you will have to wait to see that one another day!

There is surely no shortage of boats floating in the Atlantic Ocean in Boston. I seen sail boats, commercial fishing boats, tour boats, freight boats, and cruise ships. The tour boat I captured was conducting a wedding at the top. My only regret is not really having much time to take more pictures. One of my nieces was kind of our prompt to tour guide and was walking rather fast.

There was no let down on the total number of people on street even as it got darker. I guess expected for Saturday and it being an extended weekend due to the holiday here.

The atmosphere of the downtown is filled with the past. Older cobblestone is still present in some areas. Also a lot of older buildings which are a few hundred years old. So much activity on the streets at night. We witnessed a marching band in the Italian section of town. Also walked through a residential section where radios were blasted and residents were partying responsibly while enjoying a cold beverage.

Oh a cannoli! This one was super crispy and so creamy defintely a pleasant treat for the taste buds. My brother brought us to a place that is apparently world renowned for them. I took his word for it and the lines waiting for it might have been a sign. The place is called Bova's Bakery on the North end of Boston. When do you want one? Well anytime is fine because its open 24 hours.

After enjoying the cannoli we headed back to the parking garage and the walk was a rap! This post serves as my #wednesdaywalk made possible by @tattoodjay

Hope you enjoyed the walk. Take care, stay safe and enjoy the rest of the week. Next walk will be in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island as I stayed very close to the border. Until next time.

Sort:

The contrast between the old and modern buildings is so interesting. In my country, multi-storey car parks are not common, we do just the opposite, the streets are full of them. Your photos convey that feeling of being overwhelmed with people everywhere, haha. You say it's a public holiday, but I suspect that normally there's always a lively atmosphere, as in all big cities. I wonder how they can sleep at night. As for the food, I'm afraid I'll only get to try that delicious lobster in your post, and I'm already looking forward to the second part. I had to look up the ingredients for cannoli. OMG, it must be delicious!

Boston has so much history a lot of colonial history is still there. So much to do and I wanted to do so much more. I wont be disappointed to go back you can say. I have a lot of family in that area of the country.

You maybe right about the crowds of people. I know when I flew out yesterday it took us 2 1/2 hours to get to the airport when we were only 45 miles from it. That was leaving at 6:30 in morning. My brother did say the city does sleep unlike New York City.

The cannoli was absolutely delicious the lines to get anything from that bakery were around the block. Luckily I was eating pizza with everyone else as my younger sister waited in line and got a dozen of them. God bless her, haha.

Thank you for your appreciation and the pick much appreciated 🤗 Take care!

Having family there gives you the perfect excuse to return, hehe. Your younger sister is a treasure! 😁 It was a pleasure to know about Boston through your eyes.

omg cannoli looks so delicious! I hope you enjoyed strolling in Boston. Seeing a lot of people in your pictures makes me so anxious hahaha.

Oh yes appearance and taste met on this cannoli. Yes the streets were pretty full not what I'm use to as I live in a much smaller city in the middle in the United States. Oh parking is bad if not worse than the traffic, haha

aaaaaa parking, ikr! Good too see you here again by the way. I don't know if you can still remember me from RC. hahahaha

Of course I remember you. Oh RC that was my blogging baby steps, hehe.

That's so nice to hear! That's our crypto blogging roots <3

Oh! Lobster rolls and cannoli. Two of my favorites. How do you suggest we go about importing them to the Midwest?

Interesting you ask that. The cannoli maybe easier to find at a reputable local Italian bakery. The lobster roll, my brother was telling me last night that Traders Joe has decent ones apparently. I'll have to check out in Omaha but will it be available 🤞

I've requested my daughterinlaw look for good cannoli for me in Chicago. And she regularly shops at Trader Joe's so I'll ask her to look!

Haha your on a mission its now your craving, haha

It's all your fault!

What are you guys doing in Boston? Just sight seeing?
The cannoli is enticing. Is it filled with whipped cream?
!FOODIE

Most of my relatives live on the east coast of the United States. A bit of a story how I ended up in the Midwest. My father was one of 10 siblings and the only one that moved to the Midwest.

Oh the connoli its filled with homemade creamy ricotta tastes kinda like whip cream I guess. Super tasty and this one was very Italian authentic.

Boston is a fun town to visit, but not to live some winter! Those cannoli's are really good, I tried them out before. You got some great pictures, Boston has a lot of great history to check out and some great food too. Looks like a fun day! I haven't been to Boston in more than 20 years now!

Yes so much to see here not a place you can see all the good things in a few days. It was even longer than that for me before I visited here. The cannolis were so delicious, good enough to get some next time, haha

Enjoying a long walk along with food. Foods I haven't tried before but I would gladly eat if given a chance😁😛.

Well I need to order you a lobster roll and a cannoli. I think you would like. Do you want a cold or hot lobster roll? Hehe

I want it hot😁. I haven't seen it here or I just didn't know😆

Hot I prefer as well. I sent you a message btw. I already miss it, I just got home today. The nearest ocean lobster 🦞 is at least 1200 miles from me 😔

I have bene to Boston three times for work trips, but that was work meetings and dinners all day so I never had time to explore, now I live pretty close to it and now the train even goes there from here, but with my and my wife health issues these past few years, I haven't made it for a day trip there yet but i Must do so

Even more so after seeing your post it inspired me to get it done

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day

Well its been so long since I have visited here. It was very much different from the last time. I thought the underground highways under the ocean floor were cool they werent a thing the last time. Well I have a post or two more to share but not of Boston but in the region. Parking and traffic is an absolute nightmare I dont know how my brothers work in that city. They have to pay for parking and the commute is a couple of hours each way. I think the train would be a good way to visit there.

Glad to be part of your initiative and I will be back again next week with a walk in more of a country side walk along the Massachusetts Rhode Island Border. Glad I inspired sort of shocking that I did since you live nearby, really cool!

Take care 😃

Well to be honest part of the reason I havent visited there, is since my wife had a hip replacement and then broke her shoulder she has less energy and motivation to head out so she has no interest to go to Boston or anywhere to be h9nest, and I would feel bad jaunting off for a day in Boston and leaving her home alone, but maybe things will improve or she will kick me out for a day sometime lOL

Well defintely not worth causing friction to go somewhere no one wants to sleep on the sofa. Hope your wife heals quickly and you both get.the opportunity to go to places.

Thats what I hope for, not this week for sure she had four teeth extracted the other day so isnt to comfortable, but i think she is doing better than I would if it had been me lOL

One can cause a lot of discomfort. I'm with you I wouldn't be doing well if I had 4 extracted.

I think she slept better last night, I snuck out for a morning walk :)
