The weather early this morning was not good, so I waited until late afternoon before setting out on todays ride to a place called Christ's Hospital. It is actually a school and has a massive area of grounds for sport and other events.
The bridal path bisects the grounds as you may be able to see on the notice in the photo.
So, as it was late afternoon, I was conscious of the time and needed to keep up a good pace in order to get around my planned route in time before sunset.
I passed an old railway platform that used to serve Christ's Hospital before this section of the line was dismantled and converted into a public right of way.
After passing through the school grounds, I carried on via a couple more bridalway routes, which were clearly marked off the road. Emerging eventually onto a tarmac road, which I needed to follow for a couple of miles to bridge a dual carriageway and locate another track on the other side.
This was a nice long track. Very good condition and a varied outlook. It was beginning to get chilly at this point, so I stopped to put on my jacket for the rest of my route home.
The next section of the route was still wet in places. I dont even attempt this track in the winter months as it becomes impossible to pass through due to deep mud.
However, the rest of the way was good going. After lifting my bike over a gate, I passed into St. Leonards forest and onto Holbush woods for the last section.
It was much drier here, and it was great not having to pick my way along this track as I usually need to do!
I emerged into Buchan Park for the last picture of the ride at the lake, which was looking lovely in the late evening sunshine.
Today's ride was a shade over 28 miles. It was a very enjoyable afternoon indeed. Time to plan the next one! 😁
