Forest bliss! : My Actifit Report Card: June 15 2025

in Actifit9 days ago

Cycling out in Tilgate forest today, I took some tracks that I haven't visited for some time. The changes were a real eye opener. There is a clearing in the middle of this part of the forest where a fire destroyed the trees twenty years ago!

I was surprised to see that no trees had grown back at all! Only bracken grows here now. It looks to me like no replanting was done. I found some foxgloves there, which look nice, but that's it!

Continuing onwards into more familiar territory, the forest makes way from loosely growing deciduous trees into a more densely packed pine woodland.

All of it is so peaceful and a delight to ride in these good conditions. Stopping anywhere to listen to the silence except for the sounds of nature, of course 🤣.

This next bit was fun. A nice downhill track, which is steeper than it looks in my picture but a great drop down from the highest point in the ride.

The next tracks show some views through a pine woodland, followed by a more open deciduous woodland where the tracks can disappear under a carpet of leaves in autumn! If you're not familiar with the track, it's easy to miss a turn.

Finally, back in another of our many town parks. Goffs park where the sun was shining strongly.

Forest bliss indeed! Looks so peaceful there. Does it look so empty? Did you see other riders in the area too? That's a fun biking adventure. At least it's not crowded there. 😆 Thank you for the lovely photos. Happy week ahead!

On a sunday, the main public park where the lakes are, is always very busy and lots to do for families. I go across the motorway via one of the two footbridges into the wider forest areas where there are not many people. Yesterday I only passed a few people with dogs. There are many cycle paths and downhill courses but none were being used. I was a bit surprised by that. See map.
