I Hate Torn Money

Yo Good Day Guys

When I come to Automatic Teller Machine to take out some cash, I hope I could get some clean new money. Sometime what happened was thing that far from my expectation, which the machine ended up sending out dirty money. I mean the money was not clean and neat, they had some stains and dirt on the paper.

But it was not the worst. The worst, or maybe not the worst but the thing that I hated most was if the money was torn. This picture was about the time I withdrew my money and found one of them was torn like this.

There is a law here that deliberately tearing the money, any Indonesian currency, you will be sentenced to jail up for 5 years prison and 60.000 USD fine. It is considered as an act that degrades the dignity of the currency.

However it is not about that law. It is about the fact that most shop will reject the money, and when you come back to the bank, they might deny to replace it too. So you will end up having a paper that worth of some money but can not be used for transaction.

The solution are not complicated, they are simple but sometime will make you end up spending for unnecessary stuffs. You can buy something from street stall or street food vendors, or you buy something that need more than one piece of that paper, in a big retail outlet.

Thanks to some digital payment such as QRIS and GOPAY, this torn paper which was never been an issue now could be pain in the ass.

Ok that's my rant today. Feel free to leave any comment and thanks for coming here. Sorry for being salty in this post.

Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.

Ehhh, in the Philippines if the money is torn we can ask for a replacement in any bank. Of course there are still criteria that should be meet when replacing it. But gosh, torn money from atm? The bank should replace that right especially it was torn in a atm 🤔. Its not like you rip it on your own so they should really replace it 🤔. i

here we can do that too, but need some extra work. for example stick them together with a plastic tape and pretend to ask for another nominals, for example from 3 @100 to 6 @50. However there are time we do not want to be bothered doing that thing

It’s crazy how strict the law is about deliberately damaging currency yet machines sometimes dispense bills that are already in bad shape. And you are so right about shops rejecting them and banks not always helping out it’s like you are stuck with worthless paper even though it’s not your fault!

in the end I need to find a merchant that need sales badly lol

We have a similar law here in Canada. Abuse of currency can be grounds of defacing or vandalizing of Federal government property with fines and jail time.

I happen to have a few un-circulated old obsolete Indonesian banknotes in my collection.

lol, those are collector goods right now. People are selling those bank notes for 200x of the nominal value

Thanks to the modern technology,it's easier now to do transactions involving money,

Yikes, that is one wicked act to cause the money in this state.
