◈ Mildly Infuriating

The Haram Shoe LoL

Well hello there!

Today I will share one of my story, exactly happened two days ago. I have a doubt for posting this one, regarding it is related to other people religion. Easy for some people to say this, but not for me because someone else can sue me or put me in jail for saying things that insult their religion.

But I believe you guys are not that sensitive, so let me try my best to tell this one in a very proper way... and I have erased all the jokes that might hurt someone else feelings.

So I have been looking for my new shoes, the current one hasn't broken yet but I feel like it won't last till next year. My current shoe is a New Balance, my mother bought it because it was one of the cheapest shoes here, in term of international brands.

The thing is... I do not like my current shoes. So I feel some urge to buy a new shoes first before my mother buys another one for me, which almost guaranteed won't fit my style and my taste.

One of the stores I visited last weekend was a New Balance store, I wanted to see their designs. New balance designs are a bit outdated, mostly millennials and boomers buy them here. And somehow, I found a shoe that fit my style

It was New Balance 2002R, old time hits. However there was a condition that made me could not touch it. As you can see on the picture, they have wrapped the shoe with plastic wrap.

There was a label there, ATTENTION, PRODUCT CONTAINS PIG SKIN. Yes this shoe, the one that picked my interest, cointained a pig skin and the store did not want to get sue so they wrapped the shoe with plastic wrap.

Pig Skin is a haram material for apparel. Apparently only pig's and dog's skin that you can not have them as apparel materials. The store believed tagging it with red label or HARAM tag was not enough. Maybe they were afraid some idiots might come to lick the shoe... then they would sue the store for trapping them licking HARAM stuffs.

The problem is... I could not try the shoe. I asked for a try out, but they wanted a guarantee that I would buy it if it fitted me. It's dumb, I could not touch it without plastic, I could not feel it, and if I tried with my size, I had to buy it... then what's the point of having that shoe in the display?

I decided not to look for other stores because that situation put my mood off. Do you think it is proper to wrap shoes with plastic then everyone who want to try it have to agree they must buy it if the size fit them?

Was I being too sensitive that time? I have no issue with Moeslim, majority of my big family members hold Islam as their religion. But sometime religions love to put us in a dumb situation... regardless any religion it is.

@dewabrata, eso de "But sometime religions love to put us in a dumb situation" es algo que aprendí por las cosas de la vida, no por los libros.

That seems ridiculous they would only let you try the shoe if you promised to buy it. They should've just had you sign a waiver not to sue them.
