ENGLAND, walking tour along the River Thames to Windsor Castle, 15km

in Wednesday Walk16 days ago

My week-long trip to England allowed me to visit Windsor Castle. We all know that the Castle is the residence of the British monarchs, located in Windsor, in the county of Berkshire.[ This castle is known as one of the three official residences of the British royal family and that Queen Elizabeth is buried in this castle. There are very interesting facts on the net that you should read, and believe me, I didn't know either.A friend of mine told me that I could hike to Windsor if I wanted to see that beauty. Of course, my friends and I agreed and our adventure began.I left early in the morning, with the intention of devoting the whole day to walking along the River Thames, following its course towards one of the most famous symbols of England - Windsor Castle. The fifteen-kilometer-long route did not require haste, but rather patience and a willingness to experience the journey to the goal as strongly as the arrival itself.

The Thames Path is clearly marked and easy to follow. I walked along a well-trodden path that now approaches the water, now slightly recedes, passing grassy banks, wooden piers and small docks. The river flowed calmly, and boats and smaller ships moved along its surface. The road took me through villages and suburbs that seemed to have grown naturally into the river. Houses facing the Thames, with small gardens and boats tied to the shore. On certain parts of the trail, I passed meadows where people were walking their dogs or taking short breaks. The benches along the road were a good place to take a break, drink water. I came across bridges that I crossed.

Walking along the Thames has a special rhythm - it is not strenuous, but requires continuity. Kilometers line up almost imperceptibly, because the eye constantly finds something new.
As I approached Windsor, I noticed a change in the surroundings. More walkers, cyclists and tourists were appearing. The signs increasingly pointed towards the castle. At one point, between the trees, I saw the outline of Windsor Castle for the first time. Its walls rise above the surroundings and clearly show why this place has been important for centuries. I continued walking to the very center, crossing the bridge over the Thames that leads to the city.

Walking along the Thames is not only a physical activity, but a way to get to know England from a different perspective - through landscapes, villages, water. I realized that a walking tour to Windsor is more than a destination - it is a journey to remember

That looks like it would have been a really nice walk. Was it as flat as the photos suggested? I love all the old architecture.

Yes, it's flat and great for walking, and everything is beautiful.
