I won't touch surveillance companies like Palantir or weapons companies like Raytheon despite ridiculous profits because I don't want to support their war mongering. On the other hand, I'm a huge fan of Costco (and its dividend bearing stock) because they are the only big box company that helps to increase property and commercial value when they move into a new neighborhood. Walmart and Target do the opposite and destroy value when they move into a region.
The only financial move I made last week when I left the club at 4am and noticed we had gone to war in the middle east was snap up oil contracts at $65/barrel. We already hit my first target of $90 quite easily, so I've booked enough profit that is more than what I earn teaching for 3 months! If we go to $120/barrel, which I think is still in the cards, then I will have doubled my yearly income. War is stupid, I don't like this at all, but at least there is a crude lining to it.
