Can You Stop Scrolling, Answer Honestly?

in Reflections19 days ago

Can you stop scrolling from time to other and when you are with people and when you are in the work, as we are in front of a big problem that converted people to machine of scrolling and whatever you benefit or get useful information or not, you are just scrolling and watching short videos and I have found myself with this problem that someone got my attention to it.

When I was with my friends that we are out to have some fun and to talk and to discuss with each others and in the middle of the and in the middle of our gathering, I noticed everyone was holding their phones and we were sitting together but really we were with our phones not with each other and it ended up with no useful thing or any entertainment or communication.

In fact when I set with myself and I though that we have been slaves to smart phones and as a test when I was alone I left my phone for few minutes and look at it and I found that I feel like I am I realized I felt upset and uneasy, and that feeling only went away when I picked up my phone again. That’s when I understood I was at the start of an addiction not just casually scrolling to kill time or entertain myself.

So if it is like addiction and we could not get rid of this bad habit so I decide I need to cure and first thing that I have done when I was with some people or any work I leave my phone in my pocket and Do not open it even Sometimes I make it silent or in Airplane mode.

And I started to notice that this discomfort and the urge to scroll slowly decreased, especially after adding some alternatives like exercising or even watching football matches. The important thing is to break this bad habit of endless, unnecessary scrolling and I felt that I was in prison and I am freeing.

The only real winners in this are the social media platforms and content creators who make short videos and posts. Interestingly, they don’t scroll as much as we do they do their work and earn profits while you and I just waste our time. It reminds me of the saying: the cigarette maker doesn’t smoke, So it is time to free yourself from this habit and look for something useful to do.

I am not addicted to it, but I know what you are talking about, as I used to be on it a lot more. For me though now, I am not on any social media other than Hive, and I do not check the news that often, nor spend any time at all on sites like YouTube, unless I need instructions to repair something. For the most part, the phone is a tool for me, not an entertainment device.

That is good and I call it "maturity"

Only a few years back, I kept my cell phone in a box... It was like my "dresser"... My plastic crate... The phone only got turned on every few days... Or every couple of weeks even. Nowadays it's on even at night..."in case of emergency" but that's different... I'm not as secure...I still keep it out of my hands and face down to not draw my attention by a lit up screen... Volume off most of the time... And especially if somebody is speaking to me. When I'm being with people...I do my best to be intentionally present... I'm so glad you've written this and that you are thinking about these things and calling out to others to think and feel into what is happening to us... To choose consciously... We don't need to fight the flow of life.. But we do need to choose the currents and waves to ride and not just let ourselves be washed out to sea...

Exactly
Technology is helpful, yes, but sometimes it takes away our most important moments without us even noticing.

I really appreciate your honesty in sharing your journey of breaking free from phone addiction. Your practical tips, like keeping the phone on silent or finding healthier alternatives, are both relatable and inspiring...Hope my children can do these.

I wish you good luck to convince them to do that
