This world is divided into those who are fit darkness and those who are for light. There's no in-between or sitting on the fence. The desire of God for humanity is that we all come to the knowledge of Him, accept Him into our lives, and do His will. The enemy on the other side is in opposition of this and would do anything to ensure that we don't fulfill this purpose God has planned out for us.
The path that is laid out by God leads to life, but the one by the devil leads to death. God advices us in Deuteronomy that we should choose the path that leads to life which is a wise choice to go with. God wants the best for us and wouldn't decide something for us that He knows is not for our good. How we live our lives is of great importance.
Galatians 5:13 - For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another
Liberty is one of the benefits that come when we receive Christ. That's why the bible said who the son sets free is free indeed. It also says in the presence of God there's fullness of joy. No doubt we have been called into liberty/freedom. But this doesn't mean we should abuse it. The freedom here means setting us free from sin and not freedom to engage in sinful acts, which God rebukes.
Whatever we know that does not lead to life as stated in Deuteronomy should be stayed away from. One of the things that should be observed in the life of a believer is one who is an agent of peace. Any form of disunity should not be found in us.
