⚾️ ¡Hola! ¡Hola! ⚾️
Dear community, I hope everything is going well in your lives. One of my goals every year, on my vision board, is to be more physically active. I have always recognized that sports are not my thing, and under that excuse, I have become very sedentary. It has helped that I am small and sometimes thin, but I think that age and this lifestyle are taking their toll, to the point that I have gained approximately 8 kilos and cannot find a way to lose them; this situation has greatly affected my health. In my search for something I like, I was told that at Inces (the institution where I work), a bolas criollas team was being formed.

I only know this game by name or because I have seen a court in my city on occasion, but other than that, I have NO IDEA what it is about! However, I am open to the possibility of participating in an activity like this, so I set out to find out how to join the team. The team is made up of retired women from Inces; I asked some active members and they told me that they had belonged to one of these teams, but no longer did. My first step was to go door to door asking who wanted to join the new team, but the response was not very enthusiastic. About six people signed up, but all of them had limitations that prevented them from attending Friday afternoon practices.

Undeterred, I went to the first practice with these ladies. It should be noted that I didn't know any of them, not even by reference, but they had been told that “the active players had a team and we would be playing that day.” What a shame! I had to explain that the information had been misinterpreted and that I just wanted to participate. It was difficult to explain the situation because I understood that they were a team and I couldn't participate just because I wanted to. The second limitation was that I had no idea what to do, and they weren't willing to explain it to me because they already knew the game.
That day's practice was unsuccessful, but I decided to go the following week to show them that I was interested in learning. On that occasion, they let me participate. I took a ball, made some moves that they told me were good, and they suggested that if I wanted to continue attending, I should do so. WOW! Everything was going well. The third week, when I arrived, I realized that there was another guest team playing, with uniforms, bags, balls, better prepared, and obviously superior to what my teammates were doing. I understood that the Inces team was lacking many things to be able to compete in competitions or friendly games.
Then we had a tournament with other state institutions, but we didn't attend, and the last game was to be held during Inces' anniversary week, as an exhibition for the workers, but it didn't happen. That was the end of the team. They didn't meet anymore because they couldn't, and I'm still as sedentary as ever.

This experience taught me that a team requires discipline, organization, commitment, and leadership. It also requires constant preparation and people who know how to teach newcomers, because that's what practice is for. I imagined something like, “Let's stretch, today we'll do these movements, today we'll do resistance training,” but that's not what I saw there. It was just show up, line up, the woman in charge yelling at us and making fun of us, and that was it, let's go home. It's lacking a lot.
On the other hand, it taught me that I should seriously look for a sport that I like, do something that is truly satisfying and allows me to develop physically and motivationally, and that benefits me, rather than not understanding anything or just being there for the sake of it. The only complicated thing is that I don't like to train alone, I'm not one to go places, and I'm not consistent in my activities. I have a lot of work ahead of me, not only with sports, but also with the concept of what a healthy life means to me.

Thank you all for reading about this experience, which sometimes doesn't turn out the way we imagine it in our minds, and that in a team, everyone must row in the same direction.
