Here and there: Six - The Northern Rivers, NSW

I'm back home for this week's 'here and there' post...I mean in Australia, not my actual home location. I've done a lot of travelling around the world but right here in Australia is where some of my best memories are so I thought I'd share some shite photos of one of my trips. This week they're from a place called Ballina in the "northern rivers" area on the New South Wales side of the Queensland border.

It's a legit spot surrounded by seemingly endless deserted beaches, mountains and forested areas like the Nightcap National Park which is where the rain forest photos in this post were taken. They might be shit photos but the location is certainly not shit.

We did a lot of four wheel driving and camping, hiking, bike riding, cooking on campfires, general relaxing and also rode horses on the beach which was pretty cool...although the helmets we had to wear were not cool. Anyway, the shit photos I've put into this post are pretty self-explanatory I guess so take a look for yourselves.

If you have any remarks you'd like to make, questions maybe, or just want to tell me how shit these photos are then go ahead in the comments section.

Looks like a magical place! I especially like the horseback riding on the beach. I've ridden a lot of horses in my years but have never ridden on the beach. You may have thought those helmets weren't cool, but c'mon...you guys were rockin 'em! Small price to pay for the experience.

Funny, but every time you post pics of Australia, I can't help but think...does anyone even live there? lol...it seems sparsely populated which is delightful!

My horse was stubborn, head strong, annoying, had a tendency to take matters into his own hand, didn't suffer fools and...oh hang on, I'm describing myself. Lol.

It was a cool experience and a first for me, riding on the beach. My mount was a funny bugger but once coaxed into doing what I wanted then all of a sudden he decided he actually wanted to do it as well, liking getting in the surf.

(Those bloody helmets were shit, I mean I get the point, but I'd rather have had on my Akubra, a more suitable lid)

With Australia, 95% of the population live on only 5% of the land, or there abouts, so unless in a city or town people are sparse. Most of what I do is away from people as well, and I don't like getting people in my photos.

lol I knew it! I don't really see anything wrong with that. Now if you had been riding mules, you may not have won that battle lol.

I try to stay to the less populated areas myself, though with the encroachment happening ever faster, it is becoming more difficult. Your population ratio sounds good lol

Indeed, mules can be problematic, camels too. Not that I've ridden either.

People complicate things, even though I work has to avoid it and minimise it. I am comfortable in open spaces with no one around and when I'm in the city I keep my circle small. It's better that way.

Hi @gakenkp, you were definitely right to change the community name. The site is wonderful, looking at the photos I can imagine myself among the vegetation, sitting and hearing
the murmur of the water. 😃 Thank you

The Northern Rivers area is really cool and a nice place to visit for sure. We did a lot of hiking in the Nightcap NP which is rewarding and to the very next day to be wandering kilometres of empty beaches...well, it's something special.

I had a rather distorted image of Australia, my Australia had only desert and beach ☺️ This morning I have taken it free, and although it is not the same I hope to be in a few minutes among tulips.

Australia is very diverse. Rain forest, mountains, plains, desert, deep forest, snowy peaks, arid lands and so much more. It's a big place so has very diverse weather/climates as well. Google will demonstrate it if you're so inclined.

Have a nice day.

I'll take your advice and do some Google travel, and thank you very much for the good wishes. I also hope your day is being a good day.

It's been a nice day, a few more days i
Of freedom then I begin a new (and pretty interesting) role which I'm looking forward to. I've not said anything on Hive about it but am rather enthused.

Congratulations on your new role and thank you very much for sharing this great news with me.

Thank you very much for these words. I don't know if it is necessary to repeat it again but you have always been very good to me in spite of the mistakes I have sometimes made. This also says a lot of good things about you.

I wish you a great Thursday.

What a beautiful location. Looks like you all had a wonderful time as well. Riding horseback on the beach would be a real cool experience for sure...unless you are the horse with my big ass on your back. My leg strength is improving a little everyday, so looking to get out and do some hiking this summer at our local state park and lake. It is not as beautiful as this, but man how I am ready.

It was a great time for sure. I've ridden some horses in my day but prior to this never on the beach and, I have to say, it was great fun. I had a stubborn bastard who didn't want to get in the water but once in he loved it and then, yep, didn't want to get out. Stubborn horse and stubborn rider - a good match. Lol.

It's great to hear you'll be out and about soon and enjoying the outdoors again. I think it's healing to mind and body and we should all be out there doing it.

unless you are the horse with my big ass on your back

And...when you go horse riding, just tell that horsey-bastard to stop whining and start walking! 😊

...or I just get a bigger horse. Maybe one of the clydesdale budweiser type horses.

Yeah, I miss being outdoors away from the concrete. The sites and sounds are just peaceful and help me clear my head so much better. You surely know what I am talking about.

Oh yeah, one of those buggers would be perfect!

Being out there in nature is going to be very good for you, and yeah I know what you mean. It's a good place to think, or not think, and you'll be better for it.

They are wonderful photographs with the colour of the sea contrasting with the sand and especially the horses, what a beautiful and noble animal, they fascinate me! I love the photograph of the trunk on the sand for its perspective and the colours in general of all of them with so much contrast... spectacular!!!! Really fabulous shitty pictures!

Have you done any horse riding? It's something I've done a bit of and really enjoy; had some bastard horses here and there, but that's only to be expected as they each have their own personality.

I only rode a horse once and it was a spectacular experience, I have an old photo of it... it was 20 years ago hahaha, I rode a horse as if it was in my blood and I had been doing it all my life.

Maybe you were a cowboy in your last life?

Yes, it would have been great! Long distances on horseback... super!

Wow, that looks really amazing! I understand what you are saying too. With all the stuff there is to see in the world, some of my favorite places are right in my home state. I can keep going back to them over and over.

It's a good spot, spread out over a fairly large area but easy enough to get around to it all. It's a long way from where I live but I'll get back though, it'll be worth the effort.

Helmets might not be cool, but riding horses on the beach totally makes up for it.

It's a good combination right?

Absolutely breathtaking... These photos perfectly capture the serenity and beauty of nature. The waterfall is especially stunning.

I like waterfalls from the top and bottom; I was fortunate to have seen this one from below and above although there was a lot of strenuous hiking in between.

Thanks for your comment.

i don't know why you think that the photos aren't that great, i think they are! specially the forest & the sea
Nightcap National Park is an amazing place!

I think you should remove my photos from your comment.

People's photos are not yours to use and if you feel inclined to use them you should do them the courtesy of asking first.

Thank you for removing them from your comment.
