Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Monday, June 07, 2025!
After the Eid holiday, which was also my regular weekend, I returned to work on Saturday. It was an average workday where I consulted 30 patients in my chamber. The whole duty time was easy except for the last hour of the evening shift when I got a few emergency cases!
One patient came with severe right flank pain, with some urinary difficulties. He also vomited once. On examination, I could exclude acute appendicitis. It appeared to be a ureteric stone case. The urine routine test indicated that, too. I gave him painkiller injections. I also suggested he do an ultrasound scan.
Another middle-aged worker came with active and profuse nasal bleeding! The blood was coming from the left nasal passage. There was no history of trauma. We found that his blood pressure was very high, over 200/120 mmHg. That high BP was most probably the reason for his nasal bleeding. I gave some initial management, such as a BP-lowering tablet stat, one injection IV stat to stop the bleeding, and put the same injection-soaked gauze piece in his nasal passage. Then I asked to go to the higher center.
Another guy came with a shallow cut injury to his right forearm. It wasn't a deep one, but still, it needed stitches to close the wound. He agreed, and I put 4-5 stitches to close his wound.
At home, I had a second round of morning sleep and a short afternoon nap. I couldn't walk on the treadmill before/after lunch. However, I could walk for 15 minutes after 10 pm. It helped me reach over 11k steps on Saturday!

Skin cancers: Effects of skin color
Skin cancer is more prevalent among individuals with lighter skin, particularly within the white population. While people of color are generally believed to be at a lower risk, increased melanin in their skin allows them to filter out approximately twice as much UV radiation, providing greater protection against sun damage. However, this does not mean they are immune to skin cancer. When cancer does occur in individuals with darker skin, it often presents at a more advanced stage. Consequently, people of color may face a worse prognosis compared to their lighter-skinned counterparts.
