When handling children, there are really many situations where we need to decide whether or not to tell the truth or an honest lie. With a delicate mind and heart, we often need to know if the truth will be too hard for a child to handle.
And that is where, whenever we have decided to put up an honest lie, there will be some kind of follow up needed. And this follow up must not be neglected, otherwise the repercussions will be huge. The reason is that when the child grows up and learns of the real truth, there will be a chance that they might develop negative feelings for being lied upon when they were younger.
And in terms of follow up, the key thing to do is the explain the rationale for the decision of that moment, share perspectives, educate the thinking of the child and ensure they understand why the decision was made. And only through this, a chapter can be closed and truly moved on.
