This portrait came to life in quite an unexpected way. I was painting with gouache – even though it’s not my usual medium – during an art session with a young girl. While sitting next to her, I started sketching the face of my friend.
It turned out that the portrait looked interesting, but it didn’t fit at all with the style of my other works. So I decided to experiment: cut out the figure and place her on a background painted in my watercolor style.
That’s how the idea for a mixed media series was born – where my characters can look as if they “don’t belong” to the worlds I create. And maybe that’s exactly what makes them more striking and… a little alien.
I’ll be sharing more from this series soon!
