LOH # 300, We Were Made To Believe Those, For Fantasy...!!

in Ladies of Hive8 days ago

Good evening ladies,

The contest for this week is very amazing, making me to think back to time, how everything was or used to be. In Africa, we naturally believe in tales, lullaby, myths and folklores. In the villages, adults normally make out time to tell stories of all kinds of stuffs to growing kids and we then at the same time will consciously believe and always remember those tales till adulthood. Most people even believed those stories till they became very aged or passed away. Such stories are mostly told at nights under a bright shining moonlight in an open compound, creating so much memories in the minds of all the growing children.😂, it's always lovely night time free gatherings.

In my own subconscious mind, growing up, I believed so many of them until my adulthood when I by myself discovered that those were make belif stories that were never ever true, I then dropped believing all of them entirely.

I was meant to believe that those sharp tiny lights that do blink in dark areas in the villages were the sharp eye sights of dead people moving about in the villages looking for whoever to grab and go to the land of the dead

This made me very afraid of darkness, whenever I see that blinking light, I will run very fast and very far away to hide myself, believing that I was running out from the reach and sight of the dead. I was very conscious of every dark place. So that i will never be caught by them.. haha 😂.

Becoming an adult much later, I discovered it was a blink of light from a particular night insect that usually flap it's wings while flying and the wings in turn blinks the very light we see in the dark. But the elderly told us those were the searching eyes of dead people looking for whom to grap and go to the land of the dead which in turn means that whoever they grabbed will die instantly... Very fearful myth...haha.

The question in my mind now that I have known the truth is..., what did our elderly people wanted us to understand or to achieve by telling us such folklores that were not the real facts...?

**Another untrue story is about the Owl Birds.... Till tomorrow we were told and as well believed that owl birds are agents of witchcraft operations, better still, that Owls are witches themselves. Whenever we hear the sound of Owl birds at night, we will be ready to stone it out from any nearby tree near our houses, where it has patched.

You can see how curved it's eyes looks, we believe it's the demonic evil eyes of witches looking at you. Whenever Owls are shouting, we are not comfortable until we chase them out from our environment**

Later in life as an adult, I discovered and know that Owls are just ordinary birds God created as he chose to make them look, and nothing more, they are not witches or witchcraft agents as we were made to believe.

This is my response to this contest, LOH # 300.

A lot of tales that never was true. I remember shouting luck ,luck luck luck like 7 times whenever a star 🌟 powers up to the sky to grab my luck.
I am happy that as we are growing, we become better people with better understanding of how life works and the things to accept even in our subconscious.

Haha 😂, we lived in a very scary pattern of life then. Everything was interpreted to have some negative meanings and influences.

They told us that one cannot see porcupine, (one certain animal) in the day time, it signifies that some evil omen are about to happen to that fellow who saw it.

Just because it was created to have sharp erectile spines on it's body.

😂😂, can you just imagine that kind of fallacy..?. Porcupine is just an animal designed that way, and nothing more.

Whoa, this is becoming interesting. I will go and take a good learning and read about the animal.
!LOLZ,
Imagine himan beings and their conspiracy theories and fallacies.

Igbo calls it "Ebi Ogwu", it's a bush animal.

Oh, now I know, I do see some northern guys carry it in a wheel barrow in the evening time with other things that look fetish on the wheel barrow. That soght is now makkng sense.

😂😂, okay... take care.

Did you ever figure out what, if anything, the elders wanted you to know from their story about the eyes? Interesting, but I can see why it was believable. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day! !LADY

I appreciate you, sis, thank you 🙏.

Hahaha 😂, you know in Africa mostly in those days, we were raised to believe most things our elders told us.

We saw them as very knowledgeable, unquestionable humility was the order of the day. So we literally believed everything.

But education, Internet and social media has opened our minds and eyes, we can ask questions to understand better now.

Thank you and take care.

Take care as well my friend!

You are welcome, sis.

Thank you, it's my pleasure 😊.

Thank you very 👍👍 much.

This goes to show that our young imaginations come up with unexplained fears that can haunt us until someone explains what they really are. So take the time to explain or teach our children the truth before develops into a big fear.

Thank you immensely, I appreciate your kindness.

Oh my god, that would be so fearful. If I was told something like this probably I would carry this fear through my adulthood also. You know elders can be irresponsible with these things.

You have really understand it...😂, I was literally living with the mindset of fearing darkness moreover at nights.

I couldn't stay alone in dark places or in dark rooms. You know we gradually grow in wisdom and in understanding, as time went on I became knowledgeable and stopped believing those.

Can you imagine where one was told that dead people are blinking their eyes everywhere looking for whom to grab to the land of the dead...ooooh very scary tales we grew up with that has turned out to become just jokes...😂

I can relate to this so much. As children, we believed almost everything adults told us, specially those scary stories about the dark. Looking back now, it's amazing how our understanding changes with age.

Thank you very much @ladiesofhive community, I'm excited 😊.

Wooo, thank you immensely, it's a pleasure.

Whenever rain and sunlight appears the same time, a lioness has given birth... It was later I questioned myself, is it only one lioness that gives birth every year lol, the math is not mathing...

Those were some myths and folklores we were mislead with as African growing children but today we know better.
