The tree you see there is the one in my front yard.
In the photo above, it still had some leaves, but it has deteriorated since then, becoming hollow and posing a danger to the windows and passersby on the sidewalk.
I had almost all the equipment I needed to take care of it at home, except for a strong rope long enough to secure it...
I don't have a photo of the moment when I cut down the branch you see on the left, but to give you an idea of how urgent it was, once I had the rope around the branch, I only had to pull it towards me three or four times to bring it down. With each pull, you could hear the bark creaking, and that was pretty much the only thing holding it in place.
I then set about cutting the branches I could reach, using a makeshift ladder that I was able to hang in the tree...
And after efforts that, I admit, brought me to my knees, here is the final result:
You can clearly see that the trunk is hollow, which is sinister; it has been devoured by some kind of insect... However, I don't have the energy to cut down the branch on which I have placed the rope. I can still feel a lot of resistance when I pull on it. I will probably have to saw off a good chunk before I can remove it.
As a computer scientist, I can tell you that my back and arms are going to make me pay for this little adventure... But at least the tree no longer poses an immediate danger.
So that's one thing done.

L'arbre que vous voyez là est celui qui est dans mon jardin avant.
Sur la photo ci-dessus, il était encore un peu feuillu, mais il s'est détérioré depuis devenant un arbre creux et mettant donc en danger les vitres mais aussi les passants sur le trottoir.
J'avais presque tout le matériel chez moi pour m'en occuper, mis à part une corde résistante de longueur suffisante pour le sécuriser...
Je n'ai pas la photo du moment où j'ai tombé la branche que vous voyez à gauche, mais pour vous dire à quel point il était urgent de le faire, en passant la corde autours de cette branche, il m'a suffit de tirer trois ou quatre fois vers moi pour la faire choir. Sachant qu'a chaque traction on entendant l'écorce grincer, c'était la seule chose ou presque qui la maintenait en place.
Je me suis ensuite attelé à couper les branches que je pouvais atteindre, avec une échelle de fortune que j'ai pu accrocher dans l'arbre...
Et après des efforts qui, je l'avoue, m'ont mis à genoux, voici le résultat final :
On voit bien que le tronc est creux, c'est sinistre, il a été dévoré par je ne sais quels insectes... Pas contre, je n'ai pas l'énergie pour abattre la branche sur laquelle j'ai mis la corde. On sent un grande résistance encore quand je tire dessus. Il faudra surement scier un bon morceau avant de pouvoir la retirer.
Pour un informaticien, j'peux vous dire que mon dos et mes bras vont me faire payer cette petite aventure... Mais au moins, l'arbre ne représente plus de danger pour dans l'immédiat.
