Last week was Father's Day, and we had all planned to go to the zoo for it; however, the weather wasn't on our side. So, we rearranged it for today.
Myself, Aimee, the kids, my dad, my sister, her partner and their kids all went together; sadly, my mum wasn't able to make it due to injuring her leg.

A Lego Lion and its cub
As we walked through the front gate, we saw this, and we were all blown away by it. It says that it took over 50,000 pieces to create, and the detail is amazing.
Kaleb absolutely loved it and ran straight over. Luckily, I was able to grab him before he got a chance to pull it down... which inevitably would have happened.
Ollie loved these exhibits, but didn't pay too much attention to the actual animals. Also, he slept through a good portion of it.

A Lego Giraffe
Another really impressive model.
To be honest, I could have taken photos of just these models, because each one was amazing. I decided, however, to just picture these two.
There is some event going on, but I didn't catch the details of it.

Flamingos
I like these goofy-looking, flamboyant birds.
They have a nice enclosure, with an island and a nice-sized lake to hang out in. Kaleb thought they were cool, but wasn't majorly interested in them.

Dholes
This is the first time I've ever walked past this enclosure and seen these guys active. They were all jumping and running around, and it was nice to see.
Very interesting-looking creatures, but sadly, I didn't get a good, detailed photo of them.
Kaleb really liked them.

Duckzig
Aimee and I have named this duck duckzig, or just goth duck.

Water Features
There are so many great water features throughout the zoo, and each specific area has a different feel based solely on the plants used.
These large leaves are great, and feel like an elephant's skin. They are apparently very thirsty plants, so they are mainly seen beside and around bodies of water.
I'd love to have a garden large enough to do some nice features similar to what they have in the zoo, but obviously on a much smaller scale.

A Peeping Rhino
We took an alternative route during one section, and heard all of this rustling, and I realised it was a rhino with its head through the bars of its enclosure, munching on some plants beside the walkway.
It was that close, we could have literally reached over and petted him, which was cool.
I lifted Kaleb up, and he was fascinated by him, and was picking leaves and throwing them over to him.
At one point, I reached out to him, but Kaleb pulled my arm back, "No, Daddy, he is going to bite you."

Giraffes and Zebras
Kaleb loved these and was laughing at them, until a herd started walking towards where we were standing.
He was delighted until they got pretty close, and then he said he was scared that they were going to bite him. Luckily, they turned and walked away, but then he started calling them back.
I didn't get a picture, but at one point, one of the giraffes was eating something off the ground, and its front legs spread out, literally like Melvin from Madagascar.
It was a really fun day; it was Oilies' first time in the zoo, and Kaleb's first time in about 2 years.
