Ollies Christening Today

Today is the big day for Ollie. We have had this planned for over a month, and over the last number of weeks, we have chipped away at preparing ourselves.

We bought his outfit for him a couple of weeks ago, and he looks so smart and grown-up in it.

Double Christening

Aimee's brother and his partner's child is also getting christened today, so we decided to go splits on renting a venue and doing the food/ preparing it.

Aimee and I were asked to be godparents to their son, too, so we'll go up with Ollie, and then hand him off to his godparents, so we can go up with Sonny.

When we organised Kalebs Christening it was so much stress that we didn't really get a chance to enjoy the day until it was all over. So, being able to share the burden of planning the party has been great.

All of the kids are going to be there, our kids, Aimee's Nephews, and my nieces, as well as cousins, so I think they are all going to really enjoy the day.

Prep

Aimee's dad made a couple of lemon cakes (which are amazing) he also made a few platters of sausage rolls. My dad is making sandwiches, and Aimee's brother is doing sandwhiches too.

We also booked a few platters of food from the pub, and we bought some nibbles, like crisps and sweets.

One of our neighbours made us a balloon arch, which was really nice of them and looks great, and we bought a few banners and bits and pieces like that, which we put up.

We were going to hire a kids' entertainer, like we did for Kaleb's Christening, but couldn't really find anyone.

A Big Get Together

There are about 90 people invited, but some can't make it, so we're thinking about 60 or so will be here today.

It is going to be a lot of fun seeing everyone, especially friends and family who we don't see regularly.

These days, it's hard to get out and meet up with people, so events like this, where everyone is out together, are a great way of having some overdue catch-ups.

Our friend Luke from Norwich is over for it too, and he'll be here until Tuesday, so we'll be able to spend a nice amount of time with him.

Congrats!! What a lovely day to have a christening! Perfect timing as the heat has come down a little but you'll still get the summer vibe. Hopefully the venue has some outdoor space where guests and kids can hang out under the sun

Enjoy !

Sun? This is Ireland...it's lashing bloody rain:)

Hahaha it started to rain heavy in the mid afternoon, and the kids all ran out in and were having fun.

We brought spare shoes and cloths for Kaleb, so we didn't mind him going wild

it started to rain heavy in the mid afternoon,

Of course it did. It is summer after all:)

Haha! Sending some sun from the UK ☀️☀️☀️

Thanks, but I think it's got lost in the post:)

Most have been blown away by the wind 🙃

What part of Ireland? I visited your country in the early 1990s--beautiful! I also went to Northern Ireland during The Troubles.

I was born and bred in Dublin, now living in Tipperary. It's lovely alright but the weather is abysmal.

I saw that statistic and it doesn't surprise me at all. People here tend to do what daddy government tells them. It wasn't always like that. When I was growing up, most people's principal occupation was ducking and diving. I was brought up to believe that everything the government says is a lie so I took no notice of covid and carried on as I always had. The only real difference it made to my life was that I could no longer hop on a bus to Dublin and meet up with friends. That said, most of my friends took the shot and many of them are now six feet under or heading that way.

It's great you're awake and healthy. I know what you mean about others taking the shot. I tried to warn them, but nope, they thought I was a conspiracy nut.

We are conspiracy nuts, but that doesn't make us wrong!:)

I live in Wicklow, its the next county down from Dublin.

We're really lucky here, nice wooded areas, mountains, some great beaches, meadows. Essentially all types of landscapes throughout

The venue was really nice, there was a main room, and just off that there was an outdoor yard area, also there was a long hallway and a heavy door seperating the function room from the main bar, so the kids had free reign to run around with essentially no chance of getting out.

The weather was really nice, but it did start raining in the mid afternoon, the kids loved it though and were running around in it

Have a great day. Combining the christenings seems like a good move when a lot of the same people would be at both. I know these events can be hard work.

It was so handy being able to combine it and share the load, me and Aimee were nowhere near as stressed as we were after planning Kalebs christening

Congratulations ! Have a great day, if the weather is anything like what we've got here, it'll be hot but with enough breeze to make it bearable 😀

Thank you, luckily the weather turned out to be nice and warm, but while we were in the venue after the church it started raining. But, Kaleb and his cousins were delighted about that and all ran out in it

Congrats! Sounds like festivities and wishing your family a lifetime of wonderful memories together!

Thank you so much, it was a great day and it was brilliant being able to see everyone in one place so they could spend time with him and cheer him on.
