To be very honest, phrases like “better days ahead” and “light at the end of the tunnel” have practically worked out in the lives of many people; that’s why a lot of people still believe in them. I have seen them play out on different occasions as well—in my life and in the lives of people around me.
Way back at home, there was a man who was very committed in church and led us in various functions and assignments. He didn’t have anything at all; he was struggling. The worst part of it all was that he was a graduate, and ever since he graduated, fortune had not smiled on him. He was of a marriageable age, yet there was no sign of him getting married, and all eyes were on him. He wasn’t moved at all; he believed that one day, things would click and life would smile at him.
Yeah, just as expected of him, one day we heard that he had travelled to Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, for work. Yes, he got a job—and the manner in which he got the job was strange, in a Nollywood format. He had helped a man whose car broke down in their compound back in the village, and in the end, the man asked about his status and decided to employ him as a manager in his water factory in Abuja.
I was in school when he sent me a wedding invitation to attend his marriage ceremony.
Mehn, that was one of the moments I truly believed in the existence of better days ahead. They’ll surely come to pass one day if one keeps pushing and trusting in God. No matter what, one’s life can’t be permanently bad—good days are bound to happen, no matter the situation of the earth, except when death occurs prematurely.
I, too, have faced challenges I thought I wouldn’t be able to overcome—challenges that made me think it was the end of the world. But I kept trusting in God, standing my ground, believing that I would smile again, believing that my life wouldn’t end like that—and yes, in the end, victory was sure.
Life comes in different stages of problems and successes. No matter what, those problems can’t last forever; days of victory are always lurking around, waiting to be reached.
