Monetisation on X (formerly Twitter) was going well with people, especially Nigerians, until Facebook decided to add monetisation, and that was when the world lost it. Maybe TikTok is worse—I don’t do TikTok, I’m more conversant with Facebook because that’s where I get my up-to-date info.

Disclaimer: The next paragraph is never intended to body shame
There’s a couple who—due to content monetisation—have turned to something else entirely. The woman, who has a very bad and unpleasant body, with her stomach and lap looking so wrinkled and blackened as a result of the effect of bleaching cream applied, would make videos of herself in just panties and a bra, dancing. Guys! The scene is always disgusting to the extent that I had to restrict my account to stop seeing such posts. The husband, who’s supposed to be ashamed of what his wife is doing, will also wear just a pant and join her in disgracing themselves.
“Don’t the man and woman have a family to call them to order?”
This is what everyone asks all the time.
Mehn, the length people are going for the sake of earning on social media is really crazy.
Honestly, I’m very much okay with people putting out fake news just to generate engagement, but the awful content such as the one I explained above is something else.
I had a friend—maybe we are still friends, I don’t know—who was, and still is, following the trend of dressing half-naked online just to gain engagement.
Hold on,
Haven’t you come across ladies who post videos of themselves dressing in their rooms with all manners of exposure? Or the ones who just post half-naked videos without even a written caption? They just want the world to see them and maybe market their services as well. When I told this friend of mine to reduce her “doings” on social media because it was sending a wrong signal, she laughed it off and said it was a trend.
Do you know the craziest thing? She hasn’t even gotten her account monetised yet; she’s just following trends, maybe to gain followers to enable her monetisation.
Unfortunately, social media doesn’t care about what’s put out as content as long as it’s not violating their laws, which are simply centred on banning gory scenes and real explicit things (s3x). This is why people are not bothered about putting up so-so deep and irrelevant videos just to get traffic and earn big.
Also, as much as I frown at some posts, I also love to watch some of those videos I criticise, especially to read the criticisms in the comments and laugh out loud. And that’s applicable to a lot of people out there. The posts I frown at are the ones a lot of people like to read and watch, and in fact, most of them get a very large number of views.
Thanks for reading.
