Greetings everyone!
We are humans and are bound to forget things. Forgetfulness is a normal occurrence in humans, but the only challenge is that it happens rampantly in some people—and that's where the person needs to go for a medical checkup.
Also, since we know that forgetfulness is a natural occurrence, why do we treat victims harshly as if we don’t forget things ourselves? That lifestyle of ridiculing someone who made a mistake due to forgetfulness is not nice at all. Why am I sounding like this?
Okay,
I once wrote about an experience of mine when I forgot something, and the person I was reporting to took it very personally and acted like an assistant God. Each time the topic of forgetfulness comes up, that experience is the first thing that comes to my mind.
It happened that a man—actually one of the top known men in my city—was moving around, collating data of people in my line of business because the government wanted to sponsor them. Truthfully, I don’t easily fancy things like that because I know that, at the end of the day, politics will come in when it comes to selection. And to make the matter worse, I’m not an indigene of the city.
This man knows me, so he came around and asked for my details, which I wrote—everything I could remember—and gave to him.
When he left, I remembered that a particular detail had skipped my mind, and I had to get it across to him by all means because it was one of the major requirements.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the man’s number, even though we’d been doing business already. He usually reached me through his friend who is close to my workspace. So I collected his number from his friend in order to call him, which I did severally, but he refused to answer the calls. I sent him SMS messages, but he didn’t acknowledge them. I also chatted with him on WhatsApp, but he neither read nor responded.
Towards the evening of that day, my real senses came back, and I saw no reason why I should keep calling or begging him to fill in the missed detail. Gosh, “na forget I forget, I no kill person” (it was just a mere case of forgetfulness, and I didn’t commit any crime). I just got angry and deleted his number. I dislike people who treat others that way.
It was last year, and I didn’t hear anything like "the list of people selected was out." No, nothing like that happened. I believe it is possible that the people in power had channelled the resources to themselves. Yes, it happens often!
Did I make sure that such forgetfulness doesn’t have its way with me again?
Can we completely stay off forgetfulness? No, it’s absolutely impossible. We can only learn from past mistakes and make sure the mistake doesn’t repeat itself.
Of course, I made sure to always check through details before submitting an official form.
Thanks for reading.
