It's incredible how just looking at an old photograph can bring back such vivid memories. It's as if time travel were possible. Don't you think?
Today, I want to take a trip down memory lane with you to one of the dates I had with my husband before we got married, when we were just dating. We went together to Coppelia, a famous ice cream parlor here in Havana. Unfortunately, I've heard that it's no longer in operation. As you can see in the photos, Coppelia was practically empty, as if we had reserved it just for us. The ice cream was delicious. Since we were practically the only customers, they served us very quickly.
Seeing how such an iconic place as Coppelia is no longer in business makes me reflect on the fragility of time, how fleeting everything is in this world, and the importance of making the most of our time with the people we love. I once heard a piece of advice that went: ‘Never stay angry with anyone, let alone someone you love. Life is far too short to spend it away from those we love.’ How true!
Anyone who knew the famous Coppelia years ago would never have imagined its current state. But how wonderful that we were able to enjoy it to the full whilst its doors were still open. As it’s situated so close to the University of Havana, I’ll never forget the many times I popped in with my friends after classes. What lovely memories!
After leaving Coppelia that day with my partner, we went to one of our favourite spots in Havana: the gardens of the Hotel Nacional. This place has a wonderful view and, as it’s near the sea, there’s always a cool breeze blowing, which is very relaxing. It was an unforgettable day. There are places where we go with our loved ones and create memories; if those places disappear or cease to operate, whether by mistake or due to an accident, it evokes a strange feeling, because they hold our memories. I can imagine just how important that place must have been to you.
