Sábados de Reflexiones

Hello, GEMS community. It is a pleasure to share another Saturday reflection with you. After talking about slowing down and creating some distance from the digital noise, today I want to focus on something much simpler: a cup of tea or coffee. Something we often prepare automatically, without noticing that it can become a small opportunity to stop, breathe and enjoy the present.
Hola, comunidad GEMS.
There was a time when I thought of coffee mainly as a way to start the day. It was something I prepared almost without thinking: boil the water, make the coffee, take a few sips and continue with whatever came next. The cup was there, but my attention was usually somewhere else.
Lately, I have been wondering what would happen if I stopped treating that moment as a transition between one task and another. What if I prepared my coffee simply because I wanted to enjoy it? Not because I needed to wake up, not because I had something waiting for me, but because I liked the aroma, the warmth of the cup in my hands and those few quiet minutes that belonged only to me.
There is something beautiful about turning an automatic action into a small ritual. The difference may seem insignificant, but our experience changes when we pay attention. We notice the sound of the water, the aroma rising from the cup, the warmth reaching our hands and even the first sip becoming a moment instead of just another step in the morning.
Perhaps this is one of the simplest forms of being present. We often imagine mindfulness as something complicated, requiring special exercises, perfect silence or a lot of free time. But maybe it can begin with something as ordinary as drinking a cup of coffee without checking the phone at the same time.
The interesting thing is that the drink itself does not have to change. The coffee can be exactly the same as yesterday. The tea can be the same one we have prepared a hundred times. What changes is the way we arrive at that moment. Instead of rushing through it, we allow ourselves to actually be there.
I think we sometimes underestimate the importance of these tiny rituals. They do not solve all our problems, and they will not make a busy life suddenly become quiet. But they can give us small islands of calm throughout the day. And perhaps those islands are more valuable than we realize.
On a Saturday, when there is hopefully a little less pressure, I like the idea of allowing a cup to be just a cup. No productivity attached to it. No expectation. No need to photograph it, post it or turn it into something useful. Just the pleasure of drinking something warm and being completely present for a few minutes.
Maybe tasting the present does not require a special place or an extraordinary experience. Sometimes it begins right where we are, with the simplest things we already have. A warm cup between our hands can be enough to remind us that not every moment has to take us somewhere. Some moments are valuable precisely because they ask nothing from us.
So this Saturday, I want to try something very simple: prepare my tea or coffee without rushing, put the phone somewhere else, and taste it slowly. Not as fuel for the next activity, but as a small ceremony of being here.
What about you? Do you have a drink, a small ritual or a particular moment that helps you slow down and enjoy the present?
