Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!
Recently, I got a new jackpot card that was a member of the new Arena Vanguard set of cards. The card I got was Gorm the Vengeful from the Death splinter.
Other than accumulating sparks, I haven't paid much attention to the Arena Vanguards but now that I got one of them, I checked how they made an impact to the game. So far, the battles I had against Arena Vanguards have been mixed. They don't really guarantee wins though they give the user more choices in the Frontier. For myself, I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't won a battle yet with Gorm the Vengeful in my team. I have yet to find the right ruleset and conditions to optimize his use.
Battles
This was a battle against Fire's Jolius Blast that I managed to win. Jolius may be good against magic with his Void ability but Frankarsgard can stand toe to toe against him.
This one battle I lost against Buns the Unseen. He has better defense compared to Mad Gearhead that enabled him to pull off the win. In my opinion, he's probably one of the best Arena Vanguards in the set because he's neutral and has great stats.
This one I won against Buns the Unseen only because his thick armor does not protect him from magic attacks.
Final Thoughts
The Arena Vanguards are a nice set of cards to encourage us to play in the Frontier. They are strong in their own right but they don't guarantee the victory. We should still use them in rulesets and combos that maximize their potential. Simply including them in the line up without considering the ruleset, mana cost and team combination will not do and will even lead to losses.
