Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me keep track of the songs I have used so I dont end up repeating them. The last song I talked about in my last post is: Hohoemi No Bakudan from the artist Matsuko Mawatari.
Bailan Rochas y Chetas: Nene Malo
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Bailan Rochas y Chetas from the argentine artist Nene Malo.
The other day, I started looking for new songs to include in today's post. As I often do, I simply went to Spotify, checked out some playlists, and started using the recommendation tool that this platform offers.
That's how I ended up finding a genre that isn't one of my favorites and that I don't really like: cumbia villera. I've said several times that I don't usually listen to this type of music in my daily life. It's not something I have in my likes or that I play when I'm alone. However, I can't deny that during my teenage years it was quite present, mainly at parties or gatherings.
If I compare it to a lot of today's music, the truth is that these songs still have crazy instrumentals. They may not be super complex, but they have their rhythm. I feel the same way about old reggaeton, which isn't my favorite genre, but at least it had more identity than a lot of the stuff that's out there today.
Nene Malo was an Argentine cumbia villera artist who had his heyday around 2012. His style was characterized by comical lyrics and a very distinctive instrumental style.
Bailan Rochas y Chetas was his most famous song and became a massive hit in Argentina. It was played in clubs, parties, and gatherings for several years and was one of those songs that marked an era in commercial cumbia villera. Basically, the name of the song means that it is not a song for rochas (generally women from the slums or low-income women) but also for chetas (women with high economic resources).
