I'm Unhappy: AESPA - My musical choice of the day and Rising Star Statistics

Good evening everyone!

In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.

Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Null from the electronic music artist Ezekiel.

I'm Unhappy: AESPA

My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is I'm Unhappy from the K-Pop group Aespa.

For my choice today, I'm going to bring in a group from a genre that isn't particularly one of my favorites. Starting with the fact that I stopped liking the music of a few years ago because I feel that a lot of talent has been lost, there is an excess of autotune, and the instrumentals of the songs are not what they used to be.

So I've always kept listening to songs from the 2000s, which I feel was the peak of musical quality, and since then I haven't seen any better times. In fact, today I was doing my Spotify Wrapped, which gives you a summary of everything you've listened to over the years, and none of the artists or groups I was listening to most are still active. The worst part is that there's a feature that calculates your age based on the music you listen to, and it ended up giving me an age of over sixty, when I'm still only twenty-three.

I have a friend who is a fan of all pop and rock songs, mainly Korean or Japanese, so he is always trying to send me songs to get me to like them. He hasn't succeeded, but he once sent me his Top 10 songs, and I can say that I ended up liking at least three or four of them.

The song I liked the most from that list I already shared a few days ago: Dramaturgy by Eve. I can also highlight others such as “Dreaming” by KYUHYUN, another one whose name I can't reproduce because it's in Korean, and my choice today: “I'm Unhappy” by the group Aespa.

Aespa is a K-Pop girl group from SM Entertainment that debuted in November 2020. Their musical style is based on a mix of pop, electronic, and other genres. Aespa is made up of Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning. Karina, Winter, and Ningning are vocalists, while Giselle is a rapper. In addition, all members also perform as dancers within the group.

Unlike many groups that form among friends or acquaintances, this group was formed under the supervision of SM Entertainment, which trained each artist and ultimately selected them to form a K-Pop group together.

Their debut album, Black Mamba, was a huge success, breaking viewing records for new groups on YouTube. They went on to release albums that kept the group at the top of the charts, such as Black Mamba, Savage, Spicy, and Drama, which ranked high in the genre charts and made the group one of the most important groups still active today.
