In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Historias from the argentine band Las Pastillas del Abuelo.
Mr. Brightside: The Killers
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Mr. Brightside from the iconic band The Killers.
What I have selected today is related to one of the most useful tools that Spotify has developed since its creation: recommending songs. I remember the first time I used the app, about a decade ago, this feature didn't exist, and I had to search through other people's playlists to find songs. But now, everything is much easier. All you need is 4-5 songs in a list for the "artificial intelligence" to compare with other music and give you the best possible results.
The recommendation I received a few weeks ago was Mr. Brightside by a band called October Surprise. At first, I found it quite strange that this song was by this unknown band. I did some research on the internet and found out that it belonged to the famous band The Killers.
The first time I heard this band was during my childhood. My mother had a pretty varied English rock playlist, so I was used to hearing The Killers songs like When You Were Young and Somebody Told Me in the afternoons. After that, my second encounter was a few weeks ago, when I found another band's cover of one of their most iconic songs: Mr. Brightside, which is why I've chosen it for today's post.
The Killers are an iconic rock ‘n’ roll band from Las Vegas, United States. The band consists of lead singer Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoerner, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. The band's name has a rather curious history. It turns out that the band's leader was a fan of a band called New Order. In one of their music videos, a fictional band called “The Killers” appeared playing on stage.
They released their first album, Hot Fuss, in 2004, and it was a huge worldwide success. This success was due to several iconic songs that still endure today, such as “Somebody Told Me,” “All These Things That I've Done,” and my choice today: “Mr. Brightside.” The latter has achieved an impressive 2,800,000,000 plays on Spotify, while its official video on YouTube has garnered 600 million views, making it one of the most iconic songs of its time.
