This is my post for #freewriters 2804 prompt a new flu hosted by @mariannewest
Don't get me wrong, the pandemic was terrible, and many people lost a loved one, and I hope we never go through anything like it ever again.
I am not making light of the COVID-19 flu, but what the hell was the deal with toilet paper? Why was it the one thing people thought of first? Did they care more about wiping their bottom than food? It would not be my first choice, and I never hoarded it or ran out.
Was it one store that ran out, and word spread faster than a bout of diarrhea that people were buying it up, so everyone bought every roll they could find? I have never gotten as to why it was at the top of the list, I would use rags if I had to.
I worried about getting our meds, but we never went without. I wondered about food, but I knew that we could always catch something to eat. The river has fish, shrimp, clams, and oysters, so we would have food. Thankfully, it never came to that. Coffee or tea would be one thing I would not want to go without, but I could.
I wonder in the future if we had a new flu if people have learned anything? Or will they go back to thinking they have to buy everything up, starting with toilet paper? I think if people had carried on as normal, there might have been some shortages, but maybe not as many, and prices would not have been so high. But humans are greedy, so I do not expect it to go that way.
