David doesn't joke with his daughter because he prayed and waited for a child to come after 8 years of marriage.
He pampers and treats her like an egg and could always emphasize on how precious she is to him.
People who knew them could advise David to be a bit free with the way he treats his daughter.
He was also so over protective towards her, so it spoils and affects her attitude towards life.
They could make a joke on how David told the wife to quickly pass the helmet so he could use it to cover the daughter's head when she was just playing outside.
He explained how it could protect from any falling objects and how dangerous playing outside is.
David couldn't have even allowed the daughter to play outside if not that she cried and pleaded she play outside.
Which David agreed to but insisted she wears protective objects and under his supervision.
