ENGLISH VERSION

To me, coffee is gold—a kind of gold that pleases me more than the actual jewelry; a substance that warms the blood and brightens everyone's morning. When I sit in the kitchen with my cup of coffee and let my thoughts wander, I eventually turn to the news, only to conclude that I have enough problems of my own without trying to solve everyone else's. So, which is better: that gold ring on my finger, or something that warms my mornings?
And between cups of coffee, you read about the calls to repatriate those gold reserves held abroad—and we all know what they want to spend that money on. They’ll make it vanish faster than the greatest magicians. That gold never arrives because other interests are at play—interests that don't serve the people. As I take another sip of coffee, I wonder if we’ll end up bickering, worn out, or utterly exhausted from trying to solve the world's problems—all just from checking the news. It’s a world that moves too fast; we belong to the generation that waited months for letters, when the TV news covered yesterday’s events rather than the latest morning updates.
Those days are gone now. Can I pour you another cup, comadre? Before we head out to sweep the front stoop and see what the other neighbors on the block are up to.
