Greetings!
One thing everyone in life has in common is experience. Everyone grows up with experiences either good or bad. No wonder there's a popular saying credited to the word experience and it goes like this, “experience is the best teacher.”
Having said this, I would like to share with you the topic of the prompt, what I have experienced so far in life. Though, what I'm going to share isn't pleasant, but I would like to share it with us to be able to learn one or two things from it.
Although, I've had a series of experiences but the one I'm about to share with us is that of a betrayal. Some time ago, I invite a relative of mine to come and work with me because I got no time for the business idea I had, and apart from that, this guy, Eben who's my cousin was languishing in poverty and I was only trying to help him and bring him out of his dejected state. So, for this reason, I invited him to come and help me manage my poultry business.
Before we started the business, we discussed what his share of the profit would be. Though, I probably shouldn't have discussed this with him but because he's my relative, I wanted him to feel as if he owns it not knowing I was only exposing myself.
So, after we had agreed on what his share would be, we started the running of the business and to be candid with you all, I made sure I made all the necessary provisions by putting everything needed in place. His role was to manage and sell the poultry products to our customers.
Although he started well, along the line and to be precise six months after we started, the business declined and he started remitting returns below capital. When I asked him what was wrong, he attributed it to the chickens not laying as expected. It's when he said this that I told him that the returns shouldn't be less down the capital.
When he heard this, he flared up and said that I'm rubbing him because he was working for me. He quit and I couldn't persuade him to stay. So, he left and I closed down the business.
A few weeks ago, someone was telling me that he, my cousin, now has his own poultry farm where he's now making it big. When I heard this, I couldn't believe it and I decided to fact check what this fellow told me and that's when I confirmed it's true. Confirming this myself left me frustrated and depressed and I felt betrayed and cheated by someone I trusted so much. It's indeed a bitter experience but I have moved on.
This is my entry to the hiveghana weekly prompt.
Thanks for reading.
