Musical Monday: Franco De Vita (Spn / Eng)

Saludos feliz inicio de semana, la cual espero sea plena de alegría para todos. Hoy quiero compartir tres hermosas canciones de un gran cantante y compositor venezolano, y nada mejor que compartirla en la iniciativa MUSICAL MONDAY, espacio creado por @eugelys, para que podamos compartir nuestras experiencias, recuerdos y pensamientos musicales.

Greetings and a happy start to the week—I hope it is filled with joy for everyone. Today, I want to share three beautiful songs by a great Venezuelan singer-songwriter. There is no better place to share them than the MUSICAL MONDAY initiative, a space created by @eugelys for us to share our musical experiences, memories, and thoughts.

En Venezuela, la década de los 80 permitió que surgieran muchas bandas y cantantes venezolanos, de diversos géneros musicales. Hubo una abundancia de creatividad musical única e irrepetible, por eso (y otras muchas razones), me encanta esta década.

In Venezuela, the 1980s saw the emergence of many Venezuelan bands and singers across various musical genres. There was an abundance of unique and unrepeatable musical creativity; that is why—among many other reasons—I love this decade.

Uno de los mejores músicos venezolanos que surgió y brilló en esa década, (y décadas después también), es FRANCO DE VITA, un cantautor, compositor y virtuoso en muchos instrumentos musicales, una persona con un talento y una calidad interpretative genial. Conocí las canciones de él, gracias a la radio y a la television venezolana de la época, encantandome sus canciones, las cuales son de gran belleza lírica y musical. Dicho lo anterior, veamos mis tres canciones de hoy.

One of the finest Venezuelan musicians to emerge and shine during that decade—and in the decades that followed—is FRANCO DE VITA. He is a singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist—an artist of brilliant talent and exceptional interpretive skill. I first discovered his music through the Venezuelan radio and television of that era, and I was captivated by his songs, which possess great lyrical and musical beauty. With that said, let’s take a look at my three song choices for today.

Aunque FRANCO DE VITA ya había editado dos álbums antes del que contiene mi primera canción de hoy, y estos eran estupendos, esta canción titulada “TE AMO”, del año 1988, es la primera melodía de este cantautor que me cautivó. Es una balada de amor, con una letra muy hermosa, diría que delicada. La oí y canté hasta el cansancio en esos años. Aquí les dejo el video oficial de esta hermosura.

Although FRANCO DE VITA had already released two excellent albums prior to the one featuring the first song I’m sharing today, the 1988 track “TE AMO” was the first of his songs to truly captivate me. It is a love ballad with beautiful—I would even say delicate—lyrics. I listened to it and sang along to it endlessly back then. Here is the official video for this beautiful song.

Mi segunda elección para este MUSICAL MONDAY es la triste y hermosa “SIN TANTO ESPACIO”, una canción en la cual la voz de FRANCO DE VITA se oye muy potente y con mucho sentimiento. La letra habla de un amor fallido y de la Esperanza de algún día volver con aquella persona que nos ha dejado. Como yo era medio masoquista, oía mucho esta canción cuando estaba despechada de un novio a quien quise mucho. Ya no oigo esta canción por esas razones, sino simplemente porque me gusta. Aquí les dejo el audio de esta bella melodía.

My second pick for this MUSICAL MONDAY is the sad yet beautiful “SIN TANTO ESPACIO”, a song in which FRANCO DE VITA’s voice sounds incredibly powerful and full of emotion. The lyrics speak of a failed romance and the hope of one day reuniting with the person who left us. Being something of a masochist, I used to listen to this song a lot when I was heartbroken over a boyfriend I had loved deeply. I don’t listen to it for those reasons anymore, though—simply because I like it. Here is the audio for this beautiful melody.

Y para finalizar mi MUSICAL MONDAY dedicada al gran cantautor venezolano FRANCO DE VITA, quiero compartir una canción que, en esta ocasión, él interpreta en directo con la cantante mexicana ALEJANDRA GUZMÁN, y se trata de la hermosa “TAN SOLO TÚ”, una canción de amor con una fuerza diría que visceral, la cual asocio siempre a mi esposo, es una de las melodías que me recuerdan a él. To wrap up my MUSICAL MONDAY dedicated to the great Venezuelan singer-songwriter FRANCO DE VITA, I want to share a song that he performs live with Mexican singer ALEJANDRA GUZMÁN: the beautiful “TAN SOLO TÚ.” It is a love song with—I would say—visceral intensity; I always associate it with my husband, as it is one of the melodies that reminds me of him.
