Very soon, the general sale of the Rebellion set will go live on Splinterlands, which will also mark the end of the Untamed sets being playable in the Modern format. Or soon anyway - I am not actually sure if it is an immediate effect or, it will be applied for next season. Whatever it is, soon, the most expensive cards I have bought such as Llama and Kitty, will be largely useless to me.
Score!
However, it is also going to be interesting to see what happens in ranked play and for Brawls and Tournaments, because with the release of Land, there is a lot of disruption to what sets people have, as they stake cards to their plots. Obviously, a lot of the older cards are getting pushed there, which creates a new dynamic for tournaments. Perhaps this is why I was able to get some wins in the Wild Tournament the other day, with my highest ever finish.
With the upward mobility of price, 1210 SPS is currently sitting at a value of $38 dollars. Though, I don't expect I will get that lucky again for a while. I do normally get my entry fee back at least though.
All of these changes throw a whole lot of spanners (monkey wrenches) into the Splinterlands works at the same time and as such, it is going to be pretty hard to find a good approach for all of it. As a result, there is going to be a lot of opportunity for people to take advantage and, make some losses of some kind too. FOMO tends to make lots of decisions for people, and I am no exception.
I will be able to start opening the 2306 Rebellion packs I bought, which sounds like a lot, but it is still something like 1000 packs short of a potential full set. So, it is going to be a bit of a challenge over the next year of playing to compete in top leagues with unmaxed monsters. hopefully though, they will be overpowered enough that they will be able to compete with some of the older cards in the Wild format, as at least currently, that is where I am brawling. I think the couple Alphas and the few Betas I have though, are all on Land. I don't have many Untamed either, except Dice - but they are being retired into oblivion too.
Because Land was released recently too, there is a lot less excitement around Rebellion opening, and far less than when it was the release of Chaos Legion. Hopefully that is a good sign. Because while Chaos Legion was hyped, it was a letdown overall, especially since it was immediately followed by a prolonged market drop. We might be on the frontside of the market this time though, as BTC just went to 44K for the first time in 18 months.
A lot of these releases are made or broken on the back of the markets, where depending in timing, it can be a roaring success and sells through fast or, has to be given away and burned. Hopefully, people will be buying while the market climbs, and hopefully, the team is a little more judicious with where they invest themselves.
For now though, we are in maintenance mode, so the release should be happening soon and people will start opening. I may have the worst open luck of the game, but I wish everyone the best of luck for themselves and may the Gods of Gold Foil Legendaries shine upon you.
