Staying focused in this very busy world that's full of distractions can be a very difficult task because we are humans and are prone to being distracted every now and then. It does not only apply to the phone and technology aspect that is heavily dominating the world when distraction is mentioned.
For me, one of the ways I have been staying focused to my capacity is by setting my goals and staying clear with them.
On a daily basis: I have certain things that are basic for the day, and I can't have a complete day without fulfilling those things/tasks. So whenever I'm getting distracted and heavily tempted, I get reminded that I have tasks to meet up with, and if I don't do them, the day can end up being a failed day for me. I go to work, though not a standard job, but it's something that's a must for me, and if I don't go, it means I would face some penalties unless I had a genuine reason for that. Just like I have been keeping up with my writing routine here, if I allow distraction to take me away for the whole day, during the time I usually create to write my article, that means I will end up not writing for the day, and I'll live with that guilty conscience.
For long-term tasks or days: I still apply the same principle of keeping to my goals and making sure I smash them all, and if I'm not able to smash them, it will be because a bigger circumstance that is beyond me happened and not the common distractions. Let's say I have a goal to smash at the end of the month, and I have it broken down bit by bit, I always make sure to play it accordingly and never allow a setback as a result of distraction unless a bigger problem occurred.
The things that come off as distractions to me are very many. I feel distracted when I'm looking for money to sort out a bill and I can't find it. Emotional disturbance is there too. Digital disturbance is not left out either.
But in all this, once my set goals are in view, the distractions become drastically reduced.
Thanks!
