I have to be honest, when I saw the reports that Chelsea could be willing to sell Pedro Neto for around £70 million, I did not immediately know whether to be happy or worried.
£70 million is a lot of money. There is no denying that.
But when I look at Pedro Neto as a player, I still feel Chelsea have not really seen everything he can offer.

Neto came to Chelsea from Wolverhampton in 2024 for around £54 million, and I remember the excitement around the signing. We were getting a player with pace, creativity and the ability to take on defenders. Those are exactly the qualities Chelsea have needed in attack for quite some time.
Unfortunately, things have not always gone as smoothly as we would have wanted.
There have been injuries, inconsistent performances and moments where he has not quite looked like the player we expected. But that's football. Sometimes a player needs time, confidence and a settled role before everything starts clicking.
Now Manchester City are reportedly interested in him, with their interest apparently connected to the possibility of Savinho leaving.
And that part makes me a little uncomfortable as a Chelsea fan.
Imagine selling Neto to Manchester City and then watching him suddenly find his best form under Enzo Maresca who they have known each other from his time at Chelsea. 😅
We have seen this kind of thing happen before in football. A player can struggle at one club, move somewhere else and suddenly everything starts working.
Of course, I can also understand Chelsea's thinking.
If someone is genuinely ready to pay around £70 million for Neto, the club would be making a profit on the £54 million or so they originally spent on him. That money could then be used to strengthen another position.
Liverpool and AC Milan are also reportedly interested, so Chelsea may have options if they decide to sell.
But for me, the biggest question is not really about the £70 million.
It's about who replaces Pedro Neto.
If Chelsea sell him and bring in another winger who is younger and more exciting, maybe I can accept it. But if we sell Neto and don't properly replace what he brings to the team, then I think we could regret the decision.
Neto has pace. He can carry the ball. He can create chances. He can stretch a defence.
Those qualities are not easy to find.
Personally, I would probably give him another season before making the final decision. Let him stay fit, give him a consistent run of games and see what he can really do.
But if the club has already decided that he is not part of the long-term plan, then £70 million is certainly tempting.
As a Chelsea fan, I just don't want to see another situation where we sell a player and spend the next few years wondering whether we made the wrong decision.
So right now, I'm sitting firmly on the fence.
