After watching Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1, I think Luis Diaz deserves to be part of that conversation too.

From the start of the game, Diaz looked full of confidence. Every time he got on the ball, it felt like something dangerous could happen. He was unlucky not to score early when his effort hit the post, but that did not stop him from continuing to cause problems for the Uzbekistan defense.
Colombia eventually got the breakthrough in the 35th minute, and it all started with Diaz. He produced a brilliant pass that completely opened up the defense, allowing Daniel Munoz to score with an excellent finish. It was one of those assists that showed just how important Diaz is to this Colombian team.
What impressed me most about Uzbekistan was that they did not panic after falling behind. Considering this is their first World Cup appearance, they showed a lot of courage. And their reward came in the 60th minute when Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored with a header. It wasn't just an equalizer but it was also Uzbekistan's first-ever World Cup goal, which made the moment even more special.
The celebrations had barely settled before Colombia responded. Just five minutes later, Diaz finally got the goal his performance deserved. He calmly placed his shot into the far corner and immediately put Colombia back in front. That goal felt like the turning point because Uzbekistan struggled to create many clear chances after that goal.
Even though Colombia were leading, they kept pushing forward. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Jaminton Campaz headed home from a Cucho Hernandez cross to make it 3-1 and put the result beyond any doubt.
Looking at the bigger picture, this World Cup is quickly becoming a tournament where individual brilliance is making the difference. The biggest stars are stepping up when their teams need them most, and Luis Diaz certainly did that in this match.
If Colombia can continue getting performances like this from him, I believe they could end up surprising a lot of people. They may not be among the favorites right now, but with a player in this kind of form, they are definitely a team worth keeping an eye on.
