Some football matches leave you sitting back and admiring quality, while others keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last whistle. Spain's 2-1 victory over Belgium was definitely the second type, and I enjoyed every minute of it as a football lover.

Spain started the game looking confident, controlling possession and moving the ball with the patience that has become their trademark. And their pressure finally paid off when Fabián Ruiz reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box to give La Roja the lead. At that point, it felt like Spain were fully in control.
Belgium, however, refused to disappear quietly. Charles De Ketelaere's well-timed header brought them level before halftime and changed the mood of the match completely. Suddenly, it became a tense contest where one mistake could decide everything.
The second half was entertaining from start to finish. Spain continued to create chances, with Lamine Yamal once again showing why so many people believe he is one of the brightest young talents in football. Every time he received the ball, it felt like something dangerous was about to happen. Belgium also had their moments and looked capable of stealing the victory themselves.
One moment that really changed the game was the injury to Thibaut Courtois. Losing a goalkeeper of his quality is never easy, especially in such an important match. His replacement, Senne Lammens, was thrown into a difficult situation, and unfortunately for him, the decisive moment went against Belgium.
When Mikel Merino came off the bench, I honestly did not expect him to become the hero once again. Yet that's exactly what happened. With only a couple of touches after entering the pitch, he reacted quickest to a spilled shot and calmly finished to send Spain into the semi-finals. It was not the most spectacular goal, but it showed something every successful team needs—players who are always ready to seize their moment.
What actually impresses me most about this Spain side is their mentality. Even after Belgium equalised, they never looked panicked or rushed. They trusted their style, remained patient, and eventually found the breakthrough. That calmness under pressure is one of the reasons they are still unbeaten and remain serious contenders for the trophy.
Now comes the challenge every football fan has been waiting for—Spain against France. It promises to be a clash between two outstanding teams filled with world-class talent. If Spain can maintain this composure while taking their chances, they will have every reason to believe they can reach the World Cup final.
For now, though, the spotlight belongs to Mikel Merino. Once again, he proved that heroes don't always start the match but sometimes they simply arrive at exactly the right moment to steal the show.
