Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Danny Welbeck on a two-year deal, and while many fans will immediately focus on his age, I think there is another side to this transfer that deserves attention.
At 35, Welbeck is no longer the young striker who broke through at Manchester United. He has already experienced almost everything English football has to offer. From winning Premier League titles with Manchester United to lifting FA Cups with Arsenal, he has built an impressive career. More importantly, his time at Brighton showed that he still has plenty to offer. He was not just another experienced player in the squad, but he became one of their leaders and played an important role in helping the club reach European football.
As a Chelsea supporter, my first reaction was mixed. I was expecting the club to bring in a younger striker, so seeing Welbeck's name announced caught me off guard. However, after thinking about it, I can understand why the club may have made this decision.
Every squad needs experienced professionals who can guide younger players both on and off the pitch. Chelsea have invested heavily in young talents over the past few seasons, and adding someone who has played at the highest level for many years could be valuable. Welbeck's work rate has never been in doubt, and he is known for pressing defenders, making intelligent runs, and putting the team first.
