I just finished watching the first half of the World Cup semi-final between France and Spain, and I have to say Spain have impressed me more than I expected.
Before kick-off, I honestly thought France would take control because of the attacking quality they have. With players like Mbappé, Dembélé and Olise, I expected them to create plenty of chances. Instead, Spain have looked like the more composed side from the opening whistle.

The only goal so far came from Mikel Oyarzabal's penalty after Digne made a costly mistake. Moments like that can completely change a big game, and I think that's exactly what happened. Once Spain went ahead, they looked more relaxed and started playing with even more confidence.
One thing I really enjoyed was watching Spain's midfield. They hardly seem to panic whenever they have the ball. They keep passing, moving and finding space, which has made life very difficult for France. It almost felt like France were chasing shadows for long periods of the first half.
On the other hand, France have not looked like themselves. Mbappé has tried to stretch the Spanish defence with his runs, but the timing just has not been right. He was caught offside a couple of times, and you could tell he was getting frustrated. There were a few promising attacks, but nothing that really tested Spain enough.
I also felt sorry for Saliba after seeing him leave the pitch with a back injury. Hopefully it isn't anything too serious because nobody wants to see such an important player miss more football after the tournament.
Even with Spain leading, I'm not ready to say the game is over. France are one of those teams that can punish you with just one chance. If they come out with more energy and start moving the ball quicker in the second half, this match could still swing in their favour.
For now, though, Spain deserve all the praise. They have been disciplined, organised and patient, and their game plan has worked almost perfectly. Sometimes football is not just about having the biggest stars; it's about playing better as a team, and that's exactly what Spain have done in the first 45 minutes.
Now all eyes are on the second half. Can Spain finish the job, or will France produce another memorable comeback? Whatever happens, I'm expecting an exciting finish to this semi-final.I think Spain have been the better side so far, but football has taught me never to celebrate too early. One moment can change everything, and with players like Mbappé on the pitch, this match is still very much alive.
