A few years ago, artificial intelligence sounded like something that belonged in science fiction. Today, it's everywhere. Whether you are a student, a business owner, a content creator, or even someone who just wants quick answers to everyday questions, AI has probably become part of your routine. Looking at how fast it has grown, I don't think it's just a passing trend. It's here to stay.
I won't pretend I haven't used AI myself because I have. Sometimes I use it to understand topics that seem too complicated, and other times I use it to brainstorm ideas when my mind goes blank. There have been moments when it explained something in a way that finally made it click for me. In that sense, I see AI as a very useful tool, and I appreciate what it can do.
That said, I also have mixed feelings about how dependent many people have become on it.
These days, it feels like some students no longer want to think through problems on their own. Instead of attempting a question first, they go straight to AI and copy whatever answer it gives. I understand why it's tempting because it's fast and convenient. But I don't think that's what learning is supposed to be about.
To me, education is not just about getting the right answer. It's about training your mind to think, make mistakes, ask questions, and improve. If AI starts doing all of that for us, what happens to our own ability to reason? That's the part that worries me the most.
For me, AI should be like a helpful teacher sitting beside you, not someone taking your exams for you. Use it to explain difficult topics, generate ideas, or check your understanding after you have made your own attempt. That way, you are still learning instead of simply collecting answers.
One thing I have learned is that technology itself is not the problem. The real issue is how we choose to use it. A calculator did not stop people from learning mathematics, but students still had to understand the formulas before using one. I think AI should be treated the same way.
As AI continues to improve, we also need to improve the way we use it. We should not let convenience replace curiosity or allow quick answers to take away our ability to think independently.
At the end of the day, I believe AI can make us better, but only if we remain in control. It should support our learning, not replace it. If we can strike that balance, then we can enjoy the benefits of this amazing technology without losing the very skills that education is meant to build.
