Today is a complete blur… a day I can barely make sense of.
It all started around 2:30 PM. I turned on a large machine, something I’ve done dozens, maybe hundreds of times before. I began working as usual… and then, nothing. Total blackout.
I came to at 5:45 PM in the hospital. Everything in between is gone. I have absolutely no memory of what happened. Just the aftermath: stitches above my eyebrow, a dislocated shoulder, a pounding headache, and sharp pain whenever I try to lift my arm above my waist. The stitches don’t look great, but at least I’m awake and okay.
Honestly, it’s pretty unsettling. I don’t understand what happened. Did I make a mistake on a machine I know inside out and usually handle with no problem? Was it the heat? Did my body just suddenly shut down without warning?
So many questions, and no clear answers yet. Thankfully, the machine has a safety system and stops automatically if no one is operating the lever, so things could have been much worse.
As for work, I wasn’t given sick leave right away. The hospital no longer issues it if you’re able to go home on your own. However, I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow. If the pain is still there, they’ll put me on medical leave as a workplace accident.
In any case, I’m fully covered if it’s classified as a work accident, so I won’t lose any salary. My boss has already emailed me telling me not to come back until I’ve seen an occupational health doctor.
Overall… a really strange day, full of unanswered questions. I just hope I get some clarity soon.
